The Errands, The Shops, The Encounters
"Why are there so many people here!" That question ran through Sayurin's mind as she walked through the Market Area of Seireitei. She was walking down a path covered in many Shinigami, most of which she didn't know. 'What the hell, there a promotion going on or something!' She screamed, mentally, as she came to a turn in the path.
It was a bright, sunny day in Seireitei that day and the wind never grew larger than a small breeze. Needless to say, the weather was quite nice. It could have been that the weather was what really drove these people to the area. Maybe they all have seen this as a sign that they should enjoy their selves for the day. Even then, it wasn't enough reason for Sayurin, who prioritizes hard work and helping others over her own wants and needs.
"Why can't I find the shop?" She whispered to herself as her expression changed from irritated to concerned. Her reason for being her was a grocery run for the 5th Squad. While walking through the Squad 5 Barracks, Sayurin overheard a group discussing their need to go shopping. Upon entering the conversation she learned that they were all busy handling work and chores to leave. She offered her free-time to run the errand for them on their behalf. That was two hours ago... Now carrying most of the items she sought to gather in the multiple bags she's holding, she is left with one item on the shopping list.
"She said her favorite food was peaches." 'Why aren't any stores selling them!' She spoke and thought almost simultaneously as she sighed. "I could just tell her there were none, but.. I can't just accept that!" With that said, she continued her search with complete determination. It was rather strange though, because the specific section of the Market Area she was traveling through handled various grown foods. Upon her left were a dozen stands each carrying either a single or multiple fruits and vegetables. It seemed as if the shopkeepers, who were just regular Shinigami working for one reason or another, didn't notice when their produce ran out. Sayurin saw signs saying -Bananas for Sale- or -Rare Exotic Fruit-, but there was nothing to see beyond them. On the right side were shops that the Shinigami could rent to sell products in. These sights really showed off the varying interests of those that live in the city for the items for sale weren't just food. They included Sunglasses, accessories, weapons; It probably was the beginning of another section of the market place, really.
As Sayurin looked down through these buildings on her right, upon a nearby shop window there was a sign saying -Fruit For Sale, Cheap- and Sayurin quickly entered. Once inside she quickly scanned for any sign of the treasured fruit. "There they are!" Her glance fell to a box that read -Peaches- and she promptly made her way to it. The box which must have at one time carried dozens of the fruit now held only 2 left. Before someone else could snatch them away she had them in a bag with the receipt and she was on her way out.
As she left the store she felt a strong feeling of joy and accomplishment...

Rinkotsu walked around with a smile on his face, enjoying the rays of the sun shining on him. He could not resist coming outside today, unable to sit around and not enjoy the beautiful day. He grinned to himself, laughing at the thought that he could be considered a nature enthusiast. He did have a passion for nature, the sound of flowing water or the surroundings of green forests whose trees rustle with the slightest breeze. The feeling of being in places such as those is surreal and is the fastest way to a calm soul. He could even picture the scene now, the trees tall and the water...
Rinkotsu snapped back to reality as he bumped into an elderly woman with a bag of groceries, its contents spilling to the ground. "I'm very sorry ma'am, let me help you help you with this." Rinkotsu said as he crouched to retrieve the ladies goods. "Here you go ma'am, once again I'm very sorry." Rinkotsu said as he handed the lady back her bag. He was slightly embarrassed by the situation but he knew he handled it well and that was what matters. He realized he had been careless, day dreaming rather than paying attention to where he was going. In fact, he had wound up in the market district which was some ways from where he last remembered being.
Rinkotsu took a look around, getting a feel for the area and noticed that the place was quite full today, probably due to the weather. He also noticed a girl running around carrying multiple bags. He wasn't on any type of schedule so he decided he could help her out and carry them like a gentleman would. However he quickly lost sight of her in the crowds but he figured he would see her in a booth eventually. He was right, in fact he found her quite fast, she was in a booth, elated after having grabbed the last 2 peaches they had.
Rinkotsu walked up to her with a smile on his face, making sure to be friendly. "Hello miss, my name is Rinkotsu. I noticed you were carrying quite a few bags and I couldn't resist offering my help. A lady shouldn't have to carry so many groceries." Rinkotsu said bending down a little after realized how short she was, not wanting to overwhelm her.

As she left the store, Sayurin’s only real worry in the world were the groceries she just finished gathering. She paid no mind to anything else in the world, that is, until something, someone broke her from her slight daze. To an average sized person, the guy might not have been seen as that unusual, but to someone of Sayurin’s stature, the guy looked like a giant. As she tilted her head to see the guy’s face, she was perplexed to see him smiling down at her. What further puzzled her was his act of bending down to talk to her.
Sayurin really didn’t listen to what he was saying because she was much more focus on the man’s height. Really she didn’t expect to encounter anyone here, especially after two hours of walking around. She did grasp his words enough to know he was offering to help her with the groceries, though.
The girl looked down to the groceries in her arms. For your average soul, let alone your average female soul, the amount of groceries she was holding would seem like much. In one arm she held a bag full of such items as flour, milk, water and some bread. In the other arm were two bags containing smaller items such as the peaches, other fruits, butter and other ingredients. She thought over hard, yet quick the option presented to her. She knew that at her strength and through rigorous training, these materials weren’t heavy for her, but it also occurred to her that she been holding some of these materials so long that her arms have grown tired.
After a couple minutes of reflection, something else the guy said finally registered in her head. It was then that her stubborn side took hold. “What do you mean ‘A lady shouldn’t have to carry so many groceries.’ I could carry these all day if I wanted to!” She told the guy in an irritated tone before walking away. Her irritation didn’t last long though and the moment she was sure he couldn’t see her face, her expression turned to worry. ‘I hope I didn’t appear too nasty to him.’ Sayurin didn’t want to sound so mean, but she also didn’t want to ask him for help. To her at this moment, even something as simple as that comment would make this encounter into a game and for her to win the game, she couldn’t accept this guys assistance.
With that in mind, it didn’t take more than six feet for her to trip and fall, sending the groceries everywhere.

Rinkotsu was beginning to feel awkward as he stood there waiting for an answer from the girl. Her hesitant response could of been for a couple reasons, that he was overly tall compared to her or for the mere fact that he was a stranger. He decided she was probably shocked that someone was as polite to offer her assistance. With that in mind he waited, figuring he would get a grateful response once she got a hold on the situation.
Rinkotsu's mouth nearly dropped at the lady's response, completely opposite of what he thought the response would be. He understood that some women preferred to handle things themselves so that they wouldn't feel inferior to men but he didn't know they were so adamant about refusing help. Rinkotsu willed himself to keep his smile on and not appear offended, "Your right, my apologies." Rinkotsu said as the lady stormed by him. He wasn't sure what to do now, return home or continue to enjoy the rest of the day. The answer was decided for him as he heard a loud crash from behind.
He turned to see the same girl who had just blatantly refused his help, face down in the dirt with groceries strewn across the ground. He quickly went over to the girl, helping her up before attending to the spilled groceries. "Let me take care of this mess." Rinkotsu lending his help. Rinkotsu attended first to the fruits and vegatables so they wouldn't be too dirty from the ground. Some were slightly bruised from the impact but most were fine. Then he gathered the milk, bread, and water. Howerever the flour had busted when it hit, she would have to get more. With all the groceries rallied up he walked over to the girl. "Well now that that's over with, If you want I will still help you with these. You're going to need to get more flour." Rinkotsu said with a slight grin.

Sayurin promptly pushed herself up from the ground, into a seated position. Her long, dark blue hair was now a mess over her face in which she controlled by tying back into a neat ponytail. Once the mess was no longer blocking her view, though, she quickly analyzed the situation. Her gaze moved between the various items that were now on the ground, then to the various onlookers that either just stood there watching or continued upon their way and then finally to the guy she just left; now offering her a hand up. With a clear blush on her face she accepted the kind gesture.
“Let me take care of this mess.” She clearly heard him say before he went around collecting the items. ‘Should I let him pick it all up alone; should I help him?’ She questioned herself as she watched the guy pick up the groceries. The thought was followed by a quick reminder to Sayurin. Her body shook, just slightly with a wince of pain, yet she kept it controlled enough that no one else would notice. ‘I really messed up my ankle there.’ Was her thought as she looked back at her ankle, then to an object, a toy of some sort that may have dropped by someone. ‘I won’t tell him.’ It was bad enough for her that she had to suffer through such an embarrassing moment in front of the guy, yet she found the idea of asking for additional assistance worse.
Sayurin took the object that tripped and threw it in the nearest trash can, making sure to show no sign of the pain she was enduring. With that done she looked back at the guy to see if he needed any help. “Well now that that’s over with, If you want I will still help you with these. You’re going to need to get more flour.” She didn’t know how to respond to him. Sayurin had earlier told this guy she didn’t want help, even in such a mean tone, but he was back offering her assistance again. As stubborn as she was, she was stupid and knew her limits. If she carried the groceries herself, bought more flour herself, there was a chance her leg would completely give out. She knew that in such a case, most Shinigami would show little concern, as she noticed following her fall. She knew that at least this guy would be able to assist her in such a case. With that in mind she accepted his offer. “If you would like to help, please carry that bag there.” She said as she pointed at one of the bags.
She then began to look around with a worried expression. She found the bag with the peaches and looked them over. “At least they’re safe.” She said with a satisfied look. “I bought the flour over there.” Her finger pointed to a shop just a couple yards away. Her bags in hand, she headed in that direction. Sayurin walked only two steps before turning around. At first her face turned towards the guy, but as a blush grew on her face, it began to tilt downwards and she questioned him. “What’s your name?" Her face then lit up with a slight smirk before saying "I'm Sayurin. Yuri works too though."

Rinkotsu was pleased with her answer, agreeing to let him assist her, especially now. "My pleasure." Rinkotsu said as he turned in the direction of where she had pointed and saw the bag, walking over to pick it up. He hefted it into the nook of his arm and walked back over to the girl. She had just found a bag with something in it that was unharmed from the fall before she pointed over to a booth where she had bought the flour. Rinkotsu smirked a little, "After you." He said before beginning to follow her.
Abruptly after taking a couple steps though she turned around at looked at him. He met her eyes for a moment before she tilted her head down, hiding a small blush that had been forming. He wasn't sure what it was for, possibly embarrasement or maybe she felt him attractive, he was unsure."What's your name?" Rinkotsu smiled a little, holding back the slight laughter that was coming. It seemed she had only paid attention to the comment about ladies during their first encounter but that was acceptable. "Well, for the second time today I will introduce myself." Rinkotsu grinned. "My name in Rinkotsu, however Rin works as well." he said before getting ready to ask hers. However she beat him to the punch, telling him her name after returning his gaze.
"Nice to meet you Yuri, now lets go replace your flour." Rinkotsu said, once again heading towards the booth where the flour was at. Rinkotsu took charge and walked ahead so that she wouldn't feel uncomfortable or vulnerable. They had only recently met so she could still feel cautious about him for all he knew. Rinkotsu arrived at the booth and personally paid for the flour himself, treating Yuri so she wouldn't have to waste any. "My treat, besides I think you deserve a break after that fall." Rinkotsu said, wondering if she would take offense to the comment or laugh about it. "So what was in the bag, the one that ended up safe?" Rinkotsu asked, curious as to what she was concerned most about. Also, conversation puts people at ease and makes them feel more comfortable.

"My treat, besides I think you deserve a break after that fall." Upon hearing that, Yuri looked up to him with what was intended to become a glare, but she quickly thought. ‘He is trying to be nice.’ Instead of a glare, she swiftly rotated her head away. ‘Just this once, I’ll let it go. He can pay. I really don’t want to seem that mean..’ It was then, during her mental battle that she heard him say "So what was in the bag, the one that ended up safe?"
With that she looked up at his face. After, once again, getting pulled out of her thought, it took Yuri a couple seconds to put the words together in her head. “Oh, they’re just some peaches.” She said to him as she picked up the bag and showed him what was inside. The peaches were sitting at the bottom of the bag next to the bread, nestled next to each other. The peach on the left looked completely unharmed and the other had a small scratch, but it was unnoticeable.
Yuri recalled the events prior to her being there. With the occurrences that occurred with her and Rinkotsu, she felt that it was worth telling him a bit more of the task she was completing. “Earlier today I was training - I was given a day off from work because I had finished my work yesterday. I came back to the Squad 5 Barracks to get a drink, but I ran into a group from my Squad. They were talking about not having enough time to shop because of work.”
Upon saying that, a slight frown appeared on her face. ‘I should have told them I was busy training.’ “I told them I had the day off and could make the run for them. After telling them that, I was approached by Momo Hinamori, Lieutenant of my squad. She overheard my offer and asked that I pick up some things for her – with the captains betrayal she has been working non-stop.” Now her face turned to concern. 'She didn't look so well.' She thought as she told Rinkotsu what happened. “I was told that peaches were her favorite food and, well, with all that has happened, she deserves something nice. Don’t you think?” She finished that sentence by facing Rinkotsu and presenting a conflicted smile.

Rinkotsu figured that Yuri was deep in thought alot, the way she always paused before answering a question. He wasn't sure what was always running through her mind but the delay didn't bug him at all. He was just glad he ran into someone that was interesting and that made his day more memorable rather than him just gallivanting around. He took a peek into the bag and noticed the peaches that Yuri mentioned before she continued on, telling him the story behind the errands. The conversations between them were becoming more casual, Rinkotsu noticed and it pleased him. He was also happy that she hadn't taken offense to his comment, which after saying it he figured she would.
As he was listening to the events before meeting her in the market he figured out a good deal about Yuri. He assumed she was a hard worker based on the fact that she finishes work early. Also that she was generous, spending her day running errands for comrades rather than focusing on what she was doing. Rinkotsu was polite and was very well mannered but he wouldn't have used his day off to run errands for others. It just showed some slight differences in their personalities is all. He busy assessing all this information that he took a moment to realize that she had asked his opinion on something.
"Yeah, it's very kind of you to sacrifice your day off to help others, most wouldn't have even considered it. Momo surely could use some kindness after that unfortunate turn of events. Luckily she has people like you who care." Rinkotsu stated. He then grabbed the flour and placed it in the bag he was carrying before turning back to Yuri. "I know how you feel though, Kira is also pretty down but he's handling the situation well. I just wish things hadn't panned out the way they did but I guess it's not up to me." Rinkotsu sighed and hefted the bags into a more comfortable position. "So is there anything that needs to be grabbed or is this all of it?" Rinkotsu asked.

((OC: Sorry for the wait. Won't be on as much as I like over the next week. First week of college, getting things organized and completing last minute things.))
Upon hearing Rinkotsu first statement, Yuri quickly responded with a blush, “I didn’t really sacrifice my day… jus.. I just.. had some free time.” Even saying that, she knew, deep down in her heart, that she could have spent this time doing many other things. Her small, right hand went up to move a lock of her long, dark blue hair back behind her ear. “And I haven’t done too much for her.. only this.” She said with uncertainty. ‘If only I were stronger’ As she said that, she bit down on her petite, bottom lip as she looked down at her legs.
"I know how you feel though, Kira is also pretty down but he's handling the situation well. I just wish things hadn't panned out the way they did but I guess it's not up to me." Sayurin wasn’t expecting to find out that Rinkotsu was apart of Squad 3 – a squad that, like squad 5, lost its captain to the betrayal. ‘He’s like me.’ Though that’s what she thought, it dug deeper into her soul. He and she were both mere unseated Shinigami without the power to help in the large-scale disaster that had occurred. It did depress her to consider that thought, but she knew it was true, at least for now.
He then immediately asked, "So is there anything that needs to be grabbed or is this all of it?" Before making a definite answer, Yuri went to pull out her shopping list. To get it, she made sure to position her body away from his view. This was done because the list was inside a pouch positioned inside the top of her uniform, just over her breast. After pulling the crumpled up ball of paper from the pouch, she swiftly went through the task of flattening it out and analyzed it. ‘All the stuff they ask for have been accounted for… I’m still missing things from my own list.. but I rather not be a burden on him any longer…’ She moved her ankle just slightly to see how much it hurt. Once again she winced, but kept control of her body enough to make the sudden jerk look nothing out of the ordinary. ‘Ow.. I wouldn’t be able to hold them myself either.’
“There’s nothing else on the list, so we can head back to the barracks now.” She said as confidently as she could, before crumpling up the paper again and placing it within the pouch again; not forgetting to turn away beforehand. “Squad 5 Barracks are that way.” She pointed down the road to her left. “If you don’t mind walking that far, that is.” She asked as she tilted her head sideways to glance at his face.

Rinkotsu smiled at Yuri, noticing that she was being very modest at the moment. He saw her lift her hand to remove hair from her face and he realized that he saw her as attractive for the first time. He normally doesn't think much about the subject but it just kind of dawned on him unexpectedly. Rinkotsu wasn't sure what to think about this so he put it in the back of his mind for another time. Right now he was focused on completing the task at hand which was helping Yuri with whatever it was she needed really.
Rinkotsu watched as Yuri turned her back to him to pull out a piece of paper, most likely the grocery list. Rinkotsu then saw Yuri make a small movement but he wasn't sure what for so he decided to leave it alone. "Great, back to the barracks we go." Rinkotsu said merrily even though he wasn't sure why. Yuri then pointed Rinkotsu in the right direction once again, wondering if it wasn't too far of a walk. "Of course not. Like I said, I'm here to help you so wherever we were taking these I would help take them." Rinkotsu said before he began to walk in the direction of the barracks.
Rinkotsu didn't want to walk in silence however, he liked socializing with people. He figured he should get to know Yuri better, he liked her company and it would be nice to hang out again. "So Yuri, what do you like doing outside of work? Any hobbies or anything?" Rinkotsu asked also while making sure he was going the right way. He easily slips into deep thought while walking, it's just natural for him for whatever reason.

“Hobbies? Um…” Yuri wasn’t certain how to answer that question. Since becoming a Shinigami she had worked hard for Squad 5, helping squad members and doing her work. That’s not to say she doesn’t take days off, but those days usually consist of training. Really, the question asked was foreign to the girl. She thought back as far as she could. Back to her old life as a ninja, back to the Rukon district, and back to the academy. It occurred to her that regardless of the number of people she interacted with, the focus was never on herself. She had to think about it.
In her old life she did have a loving and supportive family, but that’s not to infer that her well-being was important. To her family, all the ninjas in their clan were as important as any other. Her interests were never placed above others. Back in the Rukon District, even in such a nice area, the people were more concerned with their own well-being most of the time. She hated to admit it, but she knew that the only reason the villagers sent her to the academy was to boast about it. Finally, by the time she entered the academy, putting others before she was second nature.
“Well, I guess I work a lot..” She shook her head back in forth immediately. Yuri knew that was not what she wanted to say. For once someone cared to ask something about her and so she thought thoroughly.
“Art… I like to draw and stuff. Also, I performed back when I lived in Rukongai 13th; singing and dancing.” Her face then brightens up as if she just thought of something suddenly. “I also like to compete against others…” ‘if you haven’t noticed’ She wasn’t even certain if he did noticed, and by this time she realized that she didn’t have to say it, but she felt it to be only fair. “How about you, hobbies?” She made sure to make eye contact again as she asked the question from her end.

“Well, I guess I work a lot..” It was this that made Rinkotsu assume that she didn't get out much. Either she was a workaholic or maybe she just didn't have many people to do things with, he wasn't certain. “Art… I like to draw and stuff. Also, I performed back when I lived in Rukongai 13th; singing and dancing.” Rinkotsu took a breath of relief, this is more along the lines of what he wanted to hear. He himself like to have his space at times but he couldn't imagine working the majority of the time, it would kill him. He was about to inquire about what got her into song and dance but then she added on that she likes to compete. He laughed to himself slightly, amused as how Yuri had lit up when she declared her competitive spirit. He could understand how she felt even though the only person Rinkotsu was competitive with was Dalj.
"My hobbies...music and nature if that can be considered a hobby." Rinkotsu said, thinking back on how much nature really calms him and how he likes to see different kinds of animals. He used to try to figure out what animal was making what sound even. Rinkotsu has been influenced by music since he was alive and he has never stopped enjoying it. He then looked down at Yuri with a smile, making eye contact "Ialso enjoy competitions." Rinkotsu knew that telling Yuri this would most likely lead to some fun times later.
Rinkotsu looked ahead and saw that they were quite close to the squad 5 barracks which was fine with him. He liked spending time with Yuri, it was interesting but he also had other things to take care of. On top of that he was getting very hungry and the food inside the bags he was carrying was starting to test his will. Rinkotsu was ready to ask Yuri another question but he decided not to, figuring he would let her lead the conversation now.

"Nature sounds like a hobby to me." Yuri said in response. To her anything was a hobby as long as the person was willing to devote their selves to it. "Music too, back when I use to perform I listened to all kinds of music." She thought back to her time in Rukongai and remembered how much she loved the music back then.
"I also enjoy competitions" That comment threw Yuri off a bit. What she meant by enjoying competition with others were the various contest she had back when she was alive and only a few since. Since joining the Gotei 13 the problem has been that the vast majority of those willing to compete are those found in the 11th Squad. Not that she disliked the squad, she has met some really cool members of the squad. She also admires the fighting spirit that, especially the seated members, present. However, those in the squad that aren't completely devoted to fighting were usually major perverts. She was happy to find someone from another squad that enjoyed a similar interest.
Yuri noticed various symbols that were familiar to her, signs that she was nearing her barracks. She didn't want to end the conversation like that though. He started a discussion and she wanted to at least provide some end to the conversation. "So, um... What kind of mus.." She was going to ask what kind of music he liked, but she felt that not only was the question expected after their conversation thus far, but she also felt the question was too personal. She wasn't sure why she thought it was too personal, but she just knew it was. "How's Squad 3.. I mean, without the loss of Captain Ichimaru?" She was curious as to how the other squad was, beyond the current events. All the work Yuri has done for Squad 5, it's not that her interaction with those of other squads is minimal, but minimal enough that the only squads she knows the cultures of would be Squads 2 and 11, but that's only common knowledge.

Rinkotsu noticed that Yuri was about to ask him what kind of music he liked but had refrained from doing so. He wasn't sure why but he was alright with the fact that she hadn't asked. Instead she asked a different question about Rinkotsu's squad which was a lot easier to answer in his opinion. Still, Rinkotsu had to think for a minute to really recall what has been going on in squad 3 because honestly he doesn't keep up with his own squad very much.
"Well, I would say we're alright. Everyone is really just trying to help out and carry their weight so that everything is easier and the job gets done faster. In short, I guess we're all just doing our best to help out." Rinkotsu said, figuring that was the best answer he could have given. He knew that was indeed the case but he really hasn't been a part of that, usually only doing a few things here and there rather than being a full contributor. Now that Rinkotsu thought about it, even though he technically has other plans he should make the most of being in squad 3, maybe become seated or something.
"Maybe soon I can find myself in a higher position so that I can help influence the squad more. You know, actually have a say and be able to make changes." Rinkotsu said as he looked over at Yuri. He figured after that whole speech which he didn't really intend to say it was only polite to ask here about her goals or aspirations. "How about you Yuri, any plans?" Rinkotsu asked, quite curious as to what her answer would be. He also noticed they had reached the barracks now so this would probably be the last discussion they had before he left. It was okay though, he might possibly see Yuri again.

“Plans?” Sayurin asked out loud. The blue haired girl thought how she would answer a second before noticing where they were. Up ahead she could see the Squad 5 Barracks clearly in view. Yuri didn’t want to leave the guy without answering his question and so through his example and digging into the bottom reaches of her pride, she gave her answer. “I would like to be of more help to Squad 5… but I know that the Gotei 13 as a whole is suffering. I don’t like being so weak; being just an insignificant figure in all the events going on. I want to get stronger so I can be of help to everyone..”
As she said that, Yuri knew how high her ambitions were placed. Upon the betrayal of Aizen, she made a vow to become stronger; Strong enough that she could stop such evil persons from causing such pain to those around her. She saw how much her squad now suffered and now knew how much the other two were doing the same. She was going to do what she could to prevent such events from occurring again, thus her reason for training prior to offering to get the groceries. She was going to train to her limit to reach the goal she had placed.
The air around Yuri began to spiral around her body. Her body, her soul and her mind knew what she had to do. Sayurin’s gaze met Rinkotsu in the eyes. Her aura created a heat, a warm heat that poured out ambition. Sayurin’s goal was simply this, “I want to… I will become a Captain of the Gotei 13, so that I can help everyone..”
Yuri then turned to see that they had arrived at their destination. She didn’t want to say anything, for she wanted to hear how her new acquaintance would respond to her statement, but she also wanted to give him a moment to think of a response. She pointed to a building that was about 50 feet away, “There’s the building they’re at, wait here and I’ll have them come get their bags.” She placed one of the bags she was holding down on the ground, leaning on the nearby wall. Though still carrying the bag containing the peaches, she turned to head into the building where she knew her fellow Squad 5 members were working.
