Two sides of the same coin...
Ichigo is a typical teenage boy in terms of looks; the one exception to that is his spiky orange hair, a trait that he has been ridiculed about for years. Ichigo is pretty tall for his age, standing at around five feet nine inches with a lean build surmounting to his one-hundred and thirty four pound weight. Since he has become a Shinigami however, as noted by his sister Karin, he has become more muscular. When in his spiritual form, Ichigo wears the standard Shinigami getup with the addition of a strap across his chest. Initially it was a thick brown belt-like piece to hold his Zanpakuto sheathe, but it later became a red rosoary-like strap. Ichigo’s looks have been noted by many to be incredibly similar to Kaien Shiba; former lieutenant of division thirteen.

As a child, Ichigo considered his mother to be everything to him. Always smiling when he was with her and on top of that was always holding her hand. Despite the fact that he cried whenever he lost in a match at the dojo he attended, Ichigo started to smile again as soon as he saw Masaki come to pick him up. At a very young age, Ichigo heard his father saying that his name means “to protect one thing”, this resulted in his fervor to protect his mother. When his sisters were born, he began going to the dojo for the sake of protecting them instead. Since then the number of people he risks his life to protect grows, to both family and strangers.
As a teenager Ichigo began to get much more complex. A stubborn, short-tempered, strong-willed and impulsive young man. He attempts to maintain a detached, cool image. Despite this he claims to not care what other people think, playing into the detached image more. His face generally is in a scowl with eyebrows drawn together. His outspoken and hot-headed demeanor is a trait that Ichigo himself is aware of. This is also evident in that if someone picks a fight with Ichigo, he cannot help but to fight back. He grows to be genuinely compassionate and empathetic about others, such as the various spirits he has helped even before becoming a Shinigami. It is also known that Ichigo is quite capable in school despite his lack of effort. Ichigo hates fortune telling, horoscopes, fengshui, psychics and anyone whose trade involves making money from people for things they cannot see. Ichigo is also shown to be very shy around scantily clad women, I.E. Rangiku Matsumoto. His lack of respect for elders is also evident as he refers to Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto as “gramps” and several other ranking Shinigami by their names.
In combat, Ichigo holds his complex sense of honor; regularly seeks to exact revenge for the actions of his enemy. Often he taunts and belittles hie enemy when fighting, weven attacking them without warning sometimes. Ichigo often has a strong desire to win his fights, though not to the point to succumb to his inner hollow. Ichigo only fights seriously on an even ground, if his inner hollow had given the advantage over someone he will be the first to suggest a handicap. As well Ichigo refuses to kill an enemy if he did not fight them the way he wanted to, as shown with Ulquiorra. Another side to this is that Ichigo despises those who mistreat their allies, going so far as to refer to them as ‘trash’.
Even with his strong sense of honor, Ichigo’s will to win can waiver at times. This directly affects his overall energy level and fighting abilities. His absolute resolve is shown as his eyes glowing blue and his body being engulfed in a blue aura. The same happens with his Hollow powers, except the aura is a deep abyssal black. His abilities at their peak are able to contend with even the toughest opponent. If protecting his friends is the goal, he can fight at an incredibly high level despite being worn down to the bone. However inversely if his will to win is low, his spiritual energy and fighting ability take a drastic turn down.

“What the?! You suddenly appear and kick over Yama-bro, plus you want us to get out of here?! What are you thinking? You wanna die? Huh?!” Ichigo Kurosaki, fifteen years old. Hair color orange, eye color brown. Occupation; high school student.”Say something you...!” The thug yells at Ichigo, standing in the middle of a sunlight street in Karakura town after Ichigo promptly beat their comrade down. After the thugs shouting match is met by Ichigo’s silence, it comes to a head here. “Special Skill!” The thug pulling his arm back, preparing for a mighty blow! Only to be met swiftly by Ichigo’s foot. His hands in his pockets, face a bit aggravated. The sound of the rubber on the thug’s face making a nice smashing sound. The thug’s remaining friends becomes scared, how could Toshi-bro be going down? Yelling something about Ichigo being ‘one of those’ they begin flee the scene.
“Shut up already!! All you guys, look over there!” Ichigo exclaims, his face in an angry scowl pointing to a nearby telephone pole. Under the pole a tipped over memorial to a small girl who died in the spot lies tipped over, the flowing water coming out of the small bottle. Cracked and broken, Ichigo is clearly pissed. The thug’s stop in their tracks.”Question one! What the heck can that be?!” Ichigo, pointing to the one thug. With a frightened look on his face the thug promptly points to himself. “Ok you over there, the stinky looking one!!”
“U...umm...an offering to the kid who died here recently...” Before the ‘stinky’ thug could even finish his answer, Ichigo plants his feet across his face. Knocking him out instantly. The two remaining thugs hunch over to check their friend, out cold.
“Question two!!!” Ichigo exclaims, grabbing their attention looking at his face in horror. “Then why is the vase...knocked over?” Ichigo says calmly though his eyes radiates madness. A pure, intense kind of killing intent that would make a tiger think twice about attacking. It could stop a raging elephant stampede in it’s track...
“Th...that’s...that’s cuz we knocked it over...skateboarding?” The two thugs answer, almost in unison. Too afraid to move it would seem. At any moment it was almost certain they would begin to piss their pants and go crying home to their mothers.
“I see...” Ichigo Kurosaki, fifteen years old. Hair color orange, eye color brown. Occupation; high school student. Special skill... ability to see ghosts. “Then shouldn’t you apologize to her?!” Ichigo, with a maniacal face on, pointing to a ghost over his shoulder. It was a young girl, her hair in pig tails and her left eye covered in blood. Dripping down to her childish button down shirt, it was evident the thugs could see her now.
“Kyaaaa!” Their faces grew long and pale, grabbing their cheeks and shrieking bloody murder. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” The shorter thug yelled.
“I’m sorry. I won’t do it anymore. I’m sorry!!!” The taller one exclaimed, both running as fast as their feet would carry. Never knowing they had such bursting speed before but when you see ghosts...crazy things happen.
“Fu...if we scare them this much they probably won’t come around here anymore.” Ichigo began to walk again toward the young ghosts shrine. The ghost herself walked along the railing on the sidewalk, to equal Ichigo’s towering height above her. “Sorry ‘bout that, using you this way.”
“Nah. I’m the one who asked you to chase them away. I have to cooperate at least this much.” The small ghost smiled, as much as she could at least. The blood pouring down the half of her face made it hard to tell.
“Well then, bye. I’ll bring you new flowers soon.” Ichigo spoke again, continuing his pace as the ghastly girl stayed in her position. He passed her now, looking at the back of his head; she spoke again.
“...Ok. Thanks mister... Now I can spend my time quietly.” She spoke again softly, continuing her smile as best she could. Ichigo continuing to walk away from her, throwing one of his hands up in the air as he reached the end of the street. In a signal of waving goodbye.
“You’re welcome. Hurry up and go to heaven.” Ichigo began to inner monologue: ‘Yes, I am a guy who can see ghosts. My father is the neighborhood doctor. Saving people’s lives, not saving them. I don’t know if it’s because of that, but, as long as I can remember, I’ve been able to see ghosts.’ Ending his monologue as he walked into the door. “I’m home.”
“You’re- LATE!!!” Ichigo’s father, without any hesitation, quickly drop kicked Ichigo across the face as soon as he stepped in. Falling to the floor, some smoke from the evidently powerful blow steaming up from his head. “What time do you think it is, you delinquent son?! You know dinner is every night at seven!!” Ichigo’s father, Isshin, standing above him like a god among a man. Ichigo gathered himself and stood up straight.
“You! Is that how you greet your son who just returned from performing a serious exorcism?!” Getting in his face, a small vein popping out on Ichigo’s temple matching his fathers former yelling voice with his own formidable tone.
“Silence! No matter what reason, to he who disrupts this household’s iron harmony, only a punishment of blood can be rendered!!” Isshin, getting even closer to his sons face, matching his tone and then some! At the table Ichigo’s sister’s sit as if this is a normal thing. Eating dinner as per usual, Yuzu attempting to call them over and quit the fighting.
“First of all, the rules in this house are too strict!! In what world if there a parent that sets a curfew for a healthy male high school student at seven P.M....!” Ichigo yelling still, pointing his finger in his fathers face. Yuzu speaking quietly, though somehow Isshin and Ichigo are still able to hear her.
“Ichigo, you already have a new person.” Yuzu’s quiet tone piercing the loud shrills and shrieks from her father and brothers. The ghost on Ichigo’s back, a bit of a perverted businessman type. It’s body trailed off into an ethereal tail meaning, he had no legs. The ghosts thick glasses got closer to Ichigo as he floated behind his back.
“This guy! When did he?! I get rid of them again and again but it’s always like this!! Dammit!!” Ichigo screaming in frustration at his dilemma, the other sister Karin turns in her chair toward Ichigo and speaks to him directly.
“You can see them, touch them, talk to them, plus you’re a special A level spirit medium. Your troubles are fourfold. Must be tough having high specs, Ichi.” The dinner continued much as it did, Karin and Yuzu debating the nature of spirits. Ichigo’s father getting Ichigo in an arm bar, only to be thrown off by the latter. His inner monologue began again: ‘Really, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been able to see ghosts. Just like I can see any other ordinary human being. That’s why I never even though about the existence of something called...Shinigami. ’ Ichigo now in his bedroom, after following a strange black butterfly. His family appeared to be oblivious to it’s existence, on coming to his room it phased into his wall and vanished. Instead in his room he found what appeared to be a female warrior. In traditional japanese attire, a white shitagi, a black kosode, a black hakama, a white hakama-himo, white tabi, and waraji. Her black hair and dull gaze were not fixed on Ichigo in the least.
“Wha...” Ichigo stood up as the strange figure took a few steps. Her steps were slow and quiet, she utterly ignored Ichigo’s presence as if he wasn’t even there. Murmuring something, Ichigo lifting his foot in the air and kicking the strange girl in the back. This sent her in a flip, falling to her face on the floor. “‘It is near...’ my ass, retard!!” Ichigo pointing at the strange girl as she lay on the ground. “You’re a pretty confident burgular eh?! By ‘it is near...!’ do you mean that like the safe is near of something?!!” Ichigo, yelling at her as the strange girl had an increasingly confused look on her face, she spoke.
“Y...you can see me...? I mean to say, did you just kick...” Laying on the floor, slowly the girls’ head turned Ichigos way. As if she had never been touched before in her life.
“Huh? What the heck are you talking about? Of course I can see...” Suddenly Ichigo’s father bursts through the door again, planing his feet in the small of Ichigo’s back. Immediately Ichigo counters with a kick to the face.
“Be quiet Ichigo! Don’t make a ruckus on the second floor!!” His father said, in the middle of his assault on Ichigo as per usual.
“You be quiet! How can I not make a ruckus!! Look at this guy! What the heck is going on with the security system in this house?!” Bellowed Ichigo, pointing to the oddly dressed female that appeared in his room. A puzzled expression came to his father’s face.
“Hmm? What do you mean look...look at what?” Isshin began to scratch his cheek, unsure of what his son is even babbling about.
“-huh? I am talking about this samurai-costumed...” Ichigo is then cut off by the girl, now standing her eyes are fixed on him as Ichigo himself looks back at her.
“It is not possible for ordinary men to see me. I am...a shinigami.” Her face turning very serious. Little did Ichigo know, this single act. This piece of knowledge would come to take over his life. The girl hoes on to explain she comes from a place called Soul Society and that her purpose here is to exterminate an evil spirit. At the same time, across town, the spirit of the young girl is massacred by an obstructed figure. Full of malice and ill content. Back at the Kurosaki household, Ichigo is in disbelief. That is until the girl uses some of her power as a shinigami to bind his arms behind his back. The binding is extremely powerful, Ichigo barely able to move.
The stranger female from Soul Society then draws her blade, speaking again as the spirit begins to beg for his life. The spirit being from earlier, the one with ethereal legs and glasses. “Do not fear. The place you are headed to is not hell. It is Soul Society. Unlike hell, it is a peaceful place.” After hitting the spirit on the forehead with the handle of her blade, the spirit shatters. In a bright flash of light he is gone. The girl goes on talking about the duties of the shinigami, about the good souls and the bad. Or the Pluses and the Hollow’s, the former being the positive spirit obviously enough.
After some more banter, the girl clarifies her mission. Though she begins to looked worried at not being able to sense the Hollow’s power anymore. Ichigo, confused as ever, is starting to believe her and demands she go out and kill this Hollow. As he commands her, Ichigo hears a loud bellowing voice. “Hey shinigami! Didn’t you hear that huge voice just now?!” Looking puzzled, her eyes fix on him in a quizzical manner. Then however, she hears the huge voice as well. Identifying that this noise is in fact from a hollow, the girl stands amazed that Ichigo was able to hear such a thing. Yuzu’s voice is then hear screaming from downstairs. The shinigami darts toward the door. “Hey! Wait up, where are you going?! Was that voice from before a Hollow’s?!”
“Yes! I will go and get rid of it!! You stay here!!” The shinigami yells back to Ichigo, laying on the floor still bound by her spell.
“Cut the crap!! The one getting attacked is my family!! Release this spell!! Hurry!!” Ichigo, begging the pint sizes shinigami to free him. Struggling as best he can against the spell.
“What are you saying?! Even if you come, there is nothing you can do! The number of victims will just rise by one! Leave it to me and stay here quietly! Got it?!” Suddenly, as she was speaking the shinigami felt an enormous spiritual force coming from Ichigo. It was truly massive, letting out a bright light pushing her back a bit. Karin struggled her way up the stairs, the pressure had subsided and as she came up the stairs she was met by Ichigo and the shinigami. Explaining the situation, how her father was the first to fall and both her and Yuzu were attacked by the invisible force. Begging her brother to run, Ichigo struggled more.
The shinigami warning Ichigo, “Stop it! You cannot release that incantation with a human’s power!! if you force it, your soul will...” Ichigo’s power began to surge, he was screaming at the top of his lungs and finally in a shock to the shinigami herself...Ichigo broke free. It defied her whole logic, every preconceived notion of the power of mankind...was wrong to her. Grabbing a baseball bat, Ichigo ran down the stairs. The shinigami still in a bit of shock, hesitant to follow as Ichigo made his way to the ground floor. His father, laying on the floor in a pool of blood and a gaping hole in the wall.
To his horror, inside of this hole stood a grotesque beast of bone and blood. It’s face, almost fish-like with a sort of mask, having one arm and a hole in the middle of a chest it was certainly not of this plane of existence. Hesitating for a moment to take it in, Ichigo affirmed in his head that this was indeed... a Hollow. His body shaking, now paralysed in fear before this evil spirit. He tried to stop the shaking, he had to stop the shaking. In his mind he was pumping himself up. This was the beast that took down his family, a ghost was still just a ghost to him. However then he say it...in this beasts hand was his sister, Yuzu. All fear left his body and Ichigo lunged at the beast, baseball bat in hand. The Hollow returned this hostile action by swinging it’s large club-like fist at Ichigo. Defending with the bat was a natural reaction for Ichigo, blocking most of the blow...however the bat was now disintegrated by the raw power of the Hollow.
Ichigo was not without damage however, as he huffed for breathe he saw the lumbering Hollow raise it’s large arm above it’s head. Directly above Ichigo, now he was powerless. Never before had he been so close to his own death. In what would seem like an instant he was saved by the female shinigami. Drawing her blade and with a graceful cut, sliced the Hollow’s massive arm nearly in half. Looking on at her calm expression as she cut through, he was amazed. The giant Hollow then threw Yuzu, crying her name Ichigo dove and caught her with no damage done. The shinigami then goes on to explain the souls of his family are safe, Hollows search out individuals with high spiritual concentration. Then explaining that it’s target was in fact Ichigo, not his family at all.
Looking on in horror, the Hollow’s arm began to heal itself. Ichigo shocked that the reason his family was hurt was his, that it was his own fault that they are in such critical condition. As he distracted the Shinigami however, they had not noticed the Hollow leering up behind her ready to strike. With a mighty sweep of it’s hand the Hollow smacked the Shinigami aside. “That’s...enough...already!!” As the Hollow now loomed over Ichigo once more, he was not afraid but quite frankly...pissed off. Clenching his teeth he looked up at the beast. Standing up, his posture was strong and even. No fear was left in his heart of this once horrendous creature. “Hey...you...you want my soul, right?” The Hollow’s tongue smacked it’s large jaws, hungry for Ichigo. “Then fight me face to face!! No one else has anything to do with this!! Try killing me and taking my soul!!” He pounded his fist on his chest, Ichigo the proud man. Rushing to his aid, the Shinigami found him a fool. The Hollow lunged again, it’s mouth wide open ready to feed. Instead however, in it’s mouth...the shinigami was there. Taking the full force of the Hollow’s bite. Blood fell as she collapsed to her knees, the death god humbled.
“...you...idiot...” The shinigami panted on the ground, covered in her own blood. “I already told you that...your power is no match for it...! Or did you think that everything would be over if you gave him your soul to eat... either way you are an idiot...!” The Shinigami, clearly short on life, had Ichigo crouched over her. Apologizing as best he could, she spoke again. “Do not worry about it... is what I would like to say... unfortunately I am no longer able to fight the hollow...” Attempting to lift her head up, she failed. “Now all of us can only wait... until we become its food...”
Pounding his fist on the concrete in anger, in his own mind again he spoke: ‘It’s my fault...! Everyone’ll die...’ his hand clenching into a tightly balled fist. The compassion eyes of the Shinigami on him, again she spoke to him.
“Do you want to save your family?” Her eyes fixated on him, with an enthusiastic yell.
“Is there a way?! A way to help them?! Tell me!!” His face so full of determination despite being beaten earlier, his body obviously aching the Shinigami grabbed the hilt of her blade.
“There is a way... no, to be exact... I should say there is only one way.” Slowly, the Shinigami pulled her blade from it’s sheathe. The blade, glowing in the moonlight she held it out to Ichigo. “You...become a Shinigami!” Ichigo looked amazed, confused as to just how one ‘becomes’ a shinigami. “Pierce the middle of your chest with this zanpakutou...and I will insert half of my Shinigami power! That was, you will attain the power of a Shinigami temporarily... and will be able to fight the hollow on equal terms!”
“Is it really okay to do something like that...?” Ichigo spoke, confused but enthusiatic, knowing it could not be that simple. Knowing it shouldn’t be that easy to inherit the power of a god.
“I do not know... of course this is a plan set up anticipating your high spiritual nature... the percentage of success is not high... if it fails, you die...!” The Shinigami spoke again, her words growing weak. “However there is no other way!!” The Hollow shrieking again, recovering from the slicing wound it sustained attempting to eat the Shinigami. “There is no time to deliberate!” The shrieking went on, Ichigo’s face turned from uncertainty to steadfast determination. Suddenly he heard Yuzu’s voice, crying for Ichigo asking where he was. Warning him to get away, there was danger. Ichigo could only look at her body.
His inner monologue began again: ‘Dammit... why are all of them... worrying about me when they’re about to die...! Makes me who’s being scared for myself... look stupid!’ Stepping over to the Shinigami, his internal speak ended. “Give me the sword, Shinigami! Let’s give your idea a try!” A small smile on the Shinigami’s face grew.
“It’s not ‘Shinigami’ it is ‘Kuchiki Rukia.’” For the first time, she had given her name. Rukia it is, Ichigo exchanging his name to her as well with a smile. “The Hollow’s coming... if we don’t hurry...” Ichigo grabbed the handle of her blade forcefully, after a bit of hesitation plunged it deep into his chest. An immense light radiated from his body, the sword piercing through fully. The Hollow, having trouble even seeing in this immense radiance began to shriek again feeling the spiritual pressure and getting hungry. In a flash, it’s arm was suddenly lobbed off. Even it’s grotesque face was clearly shocked, Ichigo was now at the side of him. As the Hollow turned it’s head, it saw clearly the figure that had so skillfully dismembered it.
With a truly immense blade across his shoulders, Ichigo now stood before the Hollow. Wearing the same shinigami uniform as Rukia was, albeit his sword was much larger. The sheathe slung acorss his back almost appeared as a tree trunk. His stern eyes staring down the beastial Hollow. Looking on in shock, Rukia began to decipher that all instead of half of her power was taken. Her senses dulled by Ichigo’s immense spiritual pressure, she herself began to monologue: ‘I have never seen a human that could see Shinigamis! I have never seen a human defeat demon form! I have never seen the zanpakuto, which changes form in response to the individual Shinigami’s spiritual power...become so large!!’ Ichigo promptly cut off the Hollow’s leg, clearly this was a losing battle for it. Ichigo’s sword strokes were great and powerful easily lobbing off it’s limbs.
Going in for one last lunge, Ichigo raising his large blade above his head. “Realize the mistake of messing with my family, fish face!!” Ichigo’s massive strike cleaved the Hollow in half. Rukia, looking on in shock wondering ‘just who is this guy’ as Ichigo vanquished his foe. After being cleaved, the Hollow vanished in a cloud of smoke. Ichigo Kurosaki, fifteen years old. Hair color orange, eye color brown. Occupation; high school student: Shinigami.
After that faithful night, Ichigo’s life was never the same. At first he didn’t believe it, thinking the whole ordeal was simply a bad dream. How could something so outlandish be true? However, remnants of the night were missing as well. The wounds his father had sustained, gone. His sisters were quite alright. The young female Shinigami, Rukia, went on to keep existing however. Even going so far as to join Ichigo’s class in a fake body called a Gigai, with this she could recover her powers she lost last night. While she is recovering, she convinces Ichigo that the previous night was in fact real and not merely a figment of his imagination. Refusing at first, claiming the only reason he fought was night was to protect his family. Rukia, sensing a Hollow, forced Ichigo’s spirit from his body; leading him to a park where a Hollow was. Manipulating the situation to have Ichigo take over her duties.
Noticing his raw power, yet lack of the basics Rukia proceeds to train Ichigo as best she can in the Shinigami arts. Later that night, of the second day that is, Ichigo hears a rustling in his closet only to find that it is Rukia. Quickly she dons her Skull Symbol (a special glove that can force a soul out of human containers) and pushes Ichigo’s soul out. There was a Hollow afoot, there was no time to waste. While fighting this Hollow, Ichigo managed to slice off a portion of it’s mask reveling the face underneath. The face was that of his classmate Orihime Inoue’s recently deceased brother; Sora. Ichigo protests as he thought Hollows were just monster, Rukia responding that even though they were a plus once they are now pure evil. Then informing him that Orihime is in danger as Hollows often attack their relatives.
Ichigo manages to stop the Hollow before it eats Orihime’s soul, placing himself between her and the Hollow and proclaiming it will have to kill him first. Orihime exclaims that she knew it was Ichigo, much confusion as Rukia had told him only spirits could see Shinigami. The Hollow goes on to say that Orihime is already dead, that he is taking her soul. After the ensuing battle in which the Hollow actually managed to get the upper hand. Ichigo’s attacks begin to get futile as the Hollow inches closer to Orihime. Cutting off his hand, Ichigo yells to the Hollow that as big brothers, they protect their siblings. With a lunging dash the Hollow bites Orihime, as she collapses Rukia says Orihime can still live if her chain of fate is intact. Some more banter perspired and in an act of self sacrifice, the Hollow took Ichigo’s blade and pierced himself with it. Purifying himself in the process as Rukia heals Orihime and wipes her memory.
After this, Ichigo began to get more serious about fighting Hollows. Fighting various other Hollows including one that could throw bombs, Ichigo’s skills as a fighter began to vastly improve. All the while he was still trying to help his friends like Yatsura Sado, a large student born in Mexico. When Sado came to Karakura Town, he and Ichigo became fast friends. Defeating a troublesome gang in the process of their friendship. Helping Sado with purifying a Plus he had come in contact with, their friendship grew even more. During the turbulent time of new-found abilities and Hollow fighting, Rukia introduced a thing called a Gikongan to Ichigo. Inside this Gikongan was what was called an Artificial Soul. The Gikongan dispensed candy that, when eaten would drive Ichigo from his body like Rukia’s Skull Symbol. His body however, in this case, would be taken over by another individual named Kon.
Kon went on a bit of a rampage in Ichigo’s body, yet he was subdued. Now when not needed Kon is inside a stuffed lion plushie, still retaining his ability to move, talk, and generally be annoying. The sixteenth of July, frequently the saddest day in the Kurosaki household. It is the day before the anniversary of Ichigo’s mother, Masaki, death. That night they hold a family meeting and discuss their plans to go to her grave the following day. While in his bed later that night, Ichigo is plague by vision of his mother’s death. Revealing he was there for the entire thing. He and his mother were walking along the river, they saw a little girl stepping in it. It was raining and the river was moving fast, Ichigo ran to save her but she vanished. Though he was little, Ichigo covered his eyes the whole time. His mother calling out for him. The next thing he remembers is being by the side of his dead mother. The following day, while walking to the graveyard Ichigo notes how hot it was. Totally unlike the day his mother died, while walking Rukia asks Ichigo about his mothers death. Claiming it could have been a hollow targeting him yet killed his mother on accident. Ichigo claims Rukia blames everything on Hollows and dismisses it.
As he continued to walk, Ichigo notices something in the brush. The same girl that he saw the day his mother died. Running after her, as fast as he could but eventually losing her. Rukia catches up shortly and Ichigo blames himself for his mothers death. On reaching the Kurosaki family tombstone, the usual Kurosaki family ceremony begins and ends much as it always does. Sensing the reiatsu of a Hollow, Ichigo springs into action. On coming to the source of the reiatsu he notices it has grabbed his sisters, promptly freeing them with his zanpakuto. He then realizes that the girl from the day of Masaki’s death is by the Hollow, questioning in anger if that was the Hollow’s crony or something. The girls body morphs and a tentacle comes from it’s head, connecting to the Hollow’s body. Rukia informs Ichigo that the Hollow is called Grand Fisher, and that it uses a lure to trick and devour high spiritual power humans.
Despite Rukia’s protests, Ichigo lunges at the Hollow in a blind rage. Grand Fisher dodged and grows new hands to assault Ichigo. Blocking the attack swiftly, he is caught up by the Hollows growing hair. As Rukia chants a kido spell, Ichigo cuts himself free. Ichigo realized he is fighting a losing battle, an uphill climb if you will. His stamina at this rate would not hold out. Thinking of Yuzu and Karin, he remembers that he decided to protect them and swears to defeat Grand Fisher. Diving at the Hollow’s chest, Grand Fisher catches Ichigo’s blade. Tearing at Ichigo’s chest, activating his power and explaining that he can look into the hearts of humans. After peering into their hearts he can transform his lure into something they cannot cut. Promptly, Grand Fisher turns it into Masaki. Ichigo, angered that the Hollow would resort to using his mother charges again only to be blocked by her. As Ichigo is confronted by his mother, Grand Fisher pierces his hand through Masaki and Ichigo’s chest.
This does not stop Ichigo, grabbing the arm that stabbed him and exclaiming that Ichigo finally got him. Slashing open Grand Fisher’s chest, Ichigo is severely weakened. Unable to stand without the assistance of his blade. The Hollow makes one last pass however Rukia warns Ichigo in time to dodge. The Hollow then transforms into it’s lure, and leaps away. Attempting to continue, Ichigo does not have the strength and collapses. This defining moment in Ichigo’s life as a Shinigami never left him. After this depressing day many more events happened, many more Hollows defeated. Even so much as meeting a local television personality and Kanonji and fighting a hollow that he inadvertently created while trying to purify it. As well as meeting a Quincy named Uryu Ishida. Quincy are much like Shinigami in that they hunt Hollow’s, aside from that however they are very different. Ishida has a lot of animosity toward Ichigo at first, challenging him to a battle.
The battle consisted of who could hunt the most Hollow after Ishida used his Hollow food to attract more. However, much more were summoned than he expected. During the battle, Ichigo frequently attempts to get Ishida to work together with him instead of against him. Ishida then goes on to explain that the Shinigami were responsible for the death of his member, and more importantly his sensei. As they combat the Hollows in a semi-cooperative fashion an immense Hollow known as a Menos Grande. It is a Hollow of immense power, Urahara Kisuke and the members of his shop arrive. Telling Ichigo that they will fight the small fry while he defeats the Menos Grande. Every attack against the creature is rendered useless, Ichigo unsure of how to even begin to fight it anymore goes to Ishida for help. In a quite comical strategy, Ishida has Ichigo tie his zanakuto to his head and release spirit power.
The result of this plan greatly increases the size of Ishida’s bow, however the Menos Grande isn’t standing still. It begins to move toward them and charges it’s Cero. Ichigo, jumping in it’s path, deflects the Cero with his blade. The Menos then retreats, Ichigo states that he can no longer move and his zanpakuto begins to destabilize it’s form. Ishida’s bow begins to grow again. Ishida then states it’s from Ichigo’s massive amount of excess power and he begins to fire arrows in the air to release the power. In the process, Ishida harms himself but Ichigo does not explode. Inadvertently saving his life, Ishida loses some of his animosity toward Shinigami.
Later that night at around two a.m., Ichigo witnesses Rukia sneaking out of his window. Wondering where she is going, he follows. As he passes by Urahara’s shop, Kisuke offers to change him into his Shinigami form, saying he likes to help repeat customers. As Renji Abari attacks Rukia, Ichigo arrives and attacks him. Renji dodged and demands to know who he is. Renji notes the size of Ichigo’s zanpakuto, saying there are none to compare it to. He then realizes that he is the human who took Rukia’s Shinigami powers and attacks him. As they fight Renji asks if Ichigo’s sword is just for show. Renji taunts Ichigo, saything that this fight is over as he cuts his shoulder. Revealing that Rukia will be executed when she goes back to Soul Society. Renji continues to taunt, saying Ichigo couldn't even scratch him. In a flash Ichigo slashed and cut Renji’s chin. Taunting back that Ichigo was sorry for interupting Renji’s speech. After more banter Renji activates his shikai, surprising Ichigo as he was unaware swords could change form.
Renji then goes on to explain that zanpakuto can change size and shape based on the strength of the user. Ichigo then grabs Renji’s blade and begins to overwhelm his opponent even after releasing his sword, injures him in the process. As he attempts to end the fight, the blade of his sword vanishes. He then notices Byakuya is holding the severd blade, thinking it impossible due to how far Byakuya was from him. Byakuya appears behind him and stabs Ichigo through the chest. In the final moments, Rukia reprimands Ichigo stating that she is going to Soul Society and that Ichigo should know his place. As Renji opens a Senkaimon, he leaves with Byakuya and Rukia. He reflects on coming to protect Rukia, but instead she protected him again. As Ichigo contemplates his injuries in the rain, Urahara and Yoruichi approach him.
Waking up the next morning after believing himself to be dead was a shock, especially after seeing Tessai Tsukabishi laying on top of him a small bed...promptly throwing Tessai off of himself and realizing he truly had not died. Instead he was heavily bandaged and Urahara entered the room. Revealing that he had been the one that saved Ichigo’s life. After talking about methods of saving Rukia, Urahara reveals he purposely let Ichigo go and fight a losing battle. After telling Ichigo that he will open a gate to the soul society after training with him for ten days time, Ichigo agrees hastily and without thinking it through. True to his personality, Urahara then goes on to explain that there is a grace period in Soul Society for executions of about one month, Ichigo will have to save Rukia before that.
Urahara, underneath his shop has a secret training area. This is where Ichigo will be spending his time training through various, seemingly nonsensical trails at Uraharas leisure. In an effort to make him stronger, but first he must restore his shinigami power as Byakuya had cut his source or power in battle. Ichigo went through grueling trials through this time, training his body, mind and spirit for the coming confrontation in Soul Society. After successfully regaining his spiritual power back, the next lesson being the most dangerous. Tessai cuts Ichigo’s Chain of Fate. The chain gradually corrodes overs time and the only way to counter it is to become a Shinigami. The chain if it reaches the end of it’s time limit, will turn the person afflicted into a Hollow. A hole opens below Ichigo and Tessai immpbilizes him with bakudo number ninety nine ‘Kin’. In order to not die, Ichigo must scale the sides of the deep shaft.
After the fifth corrosion of the chain, Ichigo notes that the process alternates between a few minutes of corrosion to a few hours of dormancy. Due to the pain caused by the corrosion however, he is only able to attempt an escape while it is dormant. The entire chain begins to eat itself and Ichigo begs Urahara to stop it. A hole opens up on Ichigo’s chest and a mask appears on his face, akin to that of a hollow. This is a good sign that Ichigo is resisting the chance. Hearing a voice call to him, Ichigo awaken inside his own consciousness on the side of a tall building and sees and man standing on the side of a flagploe. After Ichigo falls due to his inability to control his reiatsu, the man informs him to control the reiatsu around his feet to form a platform. The man goes on to say that Byakuya only destroyed the Shinigami power he gained from Rukia, that his own latent powers were hidden deep inside his soul. He instructs ichigo to find it as the world around him crumbles.
His inner world dissolving into countless boxes, the man tells Ichigo that his powers are hidden inside just one and if he cannot find them he will vanish completely and become a hollow. Ichigo, having difficulty sensing any reiatsu at all began to get hopeless. Until he realized all he needs to do is take a tip from Ishida and find the red Reiraku of his Shinigami power. Ichigo finds his power, pulling it through. A burst of energy blasts up from the hole in the real world, Ichigo emerging with a Hollow mask on his face. Taking the hilt of his still broken blade and smashing it to pieces, Urahara challenges Ichigo to attempt to knock his hat off of his head. This being the third and final test.
Ichigo immediately attacks Urahara, cutting his hat a bit in the process. Urahara’s cane turns into a blade and he quickly overwhelms Ichigo. Urahara activates Benihime’s Shikai, telling him that it is a genuine Zanpakuto. Ichigo can only defend from Urahara’s powerful attacks, even more of his blade being sliced at the time. Ichigo runs but Urahara finds him, destroying more of the blade and leaving just the hilt. As Urahara knocks Ichigo down again he is transported to his inner world. The old man from earlier tells ichigo to cast off his fear if he truly wants to hear him, he then reveals his name to be Zangetsu and Ichigo stops in his tracks. Turning toward Urahara and calls out Zangetsu, activating his Shikai. Ichigo warns Urahara that he might not be able to hold back, swinging his immense blade at Urahara releasing a large blue wave of reiatsu. To block, Urahara uses his Chikasumi no Tate ability to create a shield. After a great deal of dust is kicked up, a now hat-less Urahara stands defeated.
Ichigo, who in the meantime after his training had gathered Sado, Ishida and Orihime to all take the plunge with him, meet Urahara in his secret training room. There he prepares to open the Senkaimon and tells them that they only have four minutes, if they do not reach Soul Society in that time they will be stuck in the Dangai Precipice World. Basically Limbo of sorts, a place between Heaven and Hell. As they enter he tunnel, accompanied by Yoruichi the get chased by Kototsu. The being is essentially a street sweeper, appearing once ever seven days to assure no one can loiter and make use of the time distortion in the zone. If a being is caught by Kototsu they will be thrown in a completely different time from when they entered.
On arriving to Soul Society Ichigo and friends are placed infront of one of the massive gates to Soul Society. There they meet Jibanbo Ikkanzaka, an immense gatekeeper. Ichigo quickly finishes him in one attack, showing his new strength to the team. However, as soon as they gate opened they were assaulted by captain Gin Ichimaru. His attack easily repelled them for now. Having to find a new method of enterting Soul Society, Yoruichi brings them to Kukaku Shiba. Who, with his specialty in fireworks, allows the team to be shot into Soul Society with a spirit cannon. When inside Soul Society he is found by a seated member of squad eleven Ikkaku Madarame. Ichigo beats Ikkaku in a fairly fast fight, even after Ikkaku revealed his shikai. Ikkaku then informs Ichigo that he will be hunted down captain Kenpachi Zaraki, he only hunts for the strongest intruders.
Ichigo is met with a familiar face after defeating Ikkaku, Renji Abarai. Renji seeking vengeance for his earlier defeat. As they fight Renji is able to greatly injure Ichigo who, in return, gets stronger from it and manages to barely defeat Renji using a direct Getsuga Tensho; after which Renji begs him to rescue Rukia, his childhood friend. On changing his mind regarding loyalties, Renji is taken into detention for trying to fight alone and losing. Ichigo, being healed of his injuries by a squad four member Hanataro Yamado in Soul Society’s sewage system. It is revealed that Ichigo’s Hollow mask was able to lessen the otherwise fatal blow from Renji. Hanataro quickly throwing the mask away.
After his healing complete, and emerging from the sewer Ichigo comes face to face with captain Kenpachi Zaraki. Their battle begins almost instantly and Ichigo is barely able to make a mark on the thought to be immortal captain. After Zangetsu helps Ichigo find his resolve, he lashes back at Zaraki with an enormous burst of spiritual power. This overpowers, and defeats the immortal Kenpachi Zaraki who now sees them as equals. Despite his ‘victory’ Ichigo is left incapacitated afterward as is Kenpachi. Ichigo is then scooped up by Yoruichi and taken to get his wounds treated.
As he wakes up, Ichigo realizes he is close to Rukia and begins to run toward the tower where Rukia is. Yoruichi reveals her true form as a shinigami after he leaves, just in time to save Hanataro and Ganju from the captain of squad six, Byakuya Kuchiki. When he arrives Ichigo confronts Byakuya, but Yoruichi knowing Ichigo is not ready to stand up to him shows up and intervenes. Incapcitating Ichigo and quickly outrunning Byakuya. When he comes to, Ichigo curses and Yoruichi explains to him he is not ready. Yet, in three days time she will make him strong enough to defeat him.
Ichigo then goes on to train for the final form of his zanpakuto, his Bankai state. The highest form of release for a Shinigami. The training is a bit different from Urahara’s, in Yoruichi’s training ground Ichigo simply had to find the ‘true’ form of his zanpakuto while fighting it. Old man Zangetsu came at Ichigo with everything he had, Ichigo attempting to use any and all manner of strange swords littered around the battlefield. Finally he found the all black katana that was Zangetsu’s true form, that of Tensa Zangetsu. After completeing his Bankai training Ichigo, along with the more sympathetic captains Shunsui Kyoraky and Jushiro Ukitake, seperately converged upon the Sokyoku to stop the execution.
Just as a saving grace should be, Ichigo stopped Rukia’s execution at the last second. Blocking the powerful phoenix shaped halberd with his sword. Moments later he dispatched three lieutenant class shinigami barehanded. A true test of his skill. However, he is then confronted by his old nemesis Byakuya Kuchikia. At first, they fight without releasing. Byakuya, taking a mental note of how much Ichigo has advanced in only three days time. Ichigo eventually taunts Byakuya enough into using his bankai. Ichigo is unable to keep using just his shikai and in a grand display, unleashes his bankai to a stunned Byakuya. Ichigo’s speed is now immense, his attacking power greatly increasing as well.
Byakuya counters this new development with the second form of his bankai. The battle rages on and Ichigo’s bones are unable to handle the stress of his bankai’s immense speed. Taking this advantage Byakuya shoots a single kido attack through Ichigo’s shoulder. This leaves him in a critical state. It is here that Ichigo’s inner Hollow surfaces and gravely injures Byakuya as well. After he regains control of his power, Ichigo and Byakuya both channel all their energy into a single attack. After the immense amount of reiatsu is poured into the air from their final moves, neither has the energy to move. Byakuya admits his defeat however because his blade was destroyed by Ichigo’s. Taking his leave, Ichigo barely standing, only supported by his zanpakuto.
Through a message relayed through Kido, the entire Soul Society learn that the events transpired are the sole result of an elaborate plot by fellow captain Sosuke Aizen. Renji, severely wounded, is protecting Rukia from Aizen. As Aizen is about to deliver the final blow he is saved by Ichigo with new found strength. Through a combination attack of Renji and Ichigo, they feel the combo may just word yet Aizen easily deflects Ichigo in his bankai state with one finger. Their plan fails and Ichigo looks on in shock as Aizen swiftly defeats him in a single counter attack. Renji gets attacked as well, also in shock at Aizen’s power.
Picking up Rukia by the collar, Aizen gets a surprise as he is interupted by Ichigo. Oddly enough, still alive. Aizen then explains to Ichigo how he planned this all from the begining in order to gain the Hogyoku, located inside of Rukia. With this he could become far more powerful than any Shinigami or Hollow by eliminating the line between the two. Another captain, Sajin Komamura comes and attemps to stop Aizen with his immense Bankai. However he too is crushed in a single level ninety kido spell. Ichigo looking on, amazed at the difference in the power levels between Sajin and Aizen as they are both captains. As Ichigo’s friends come to the scene they are struck powerless by a large bust of reiatsu from Gin.
Aizen extracts the Hogyoku from within Rukia, using a technique created by Urahara. This technique could forcibly take the Hogyoku from within a soul without damaging it. As the rest of the captains look on in shock, a large rip appears in the sky above Soul Society carrying Aizen, Gin and Tosen up into it. Departing to Hueco Mundo. Ichigo is found innocent of all crimes committed and made a substitute Shinigami. This meant that now, with a special badge from Ukitake, he could legally hunt hollows in his home town. Before departing he speaks with Rukia, who has decided to stay in Soul Society for now. With that, Ichigo and company leave the Soul Society.

Hollow Mask Appearance: Hollow Mask as it is now.

Inner Hollow: Hollow Ichigo, overall is identical to Ichigo. Their body type, face, hair, every part about them is exactly the same. However the main difference being that Hollow Ichigo's color sceme is the exact opposite of Ichigo's. Hollow Ichigo has pure white hair and skin, along with black pupils, yellow irises and black sclera. He also has black nails. Ichigo wears a black standard Shinigami Shihakusho, the Hollow version is white with a black cloth belt.
Hollow Ichigo's distinguishing personality feature is his maniacal laughter and psychotic grins. He is a brute, as well as being arrogant, disrespectful and sadistic. He lives only to take over Ichigo's power, body, and use it to kill everything he sees. Often taunting Ichigo as being weak and unsuitable for himself, though he loves the thought of having Ichigo's power to himself. He fights as a berserker, much unlike Ichigo, ignoring any and all injuries and defeating an enemy with brute strength. Despite his hatred for Ichigo, his Hollow self must protext his life for if Ichigo died so would he.
Zanpakuto Name: Zangetsu (Slaying Moon)
Sealed Zanpakuto: None, Zangetsu is in a state of perpetual shikai.

In it's Shikai form, Zangetsu looks more like an over sized cleaver than a sword. It has no tsuba and no proper hilt, instead Ichigo holds it from it's cloth wrapped tang. The sword is as tall as Ichigo, 1.75 meters, having a black black with a gleaming silver edge. The cloth on the tang seem to be controlled by Ichigo to some degree, able to form it into a pseudo-sheathe when he needs to put it on his back. The cloth can also be used to swing Zangetsu around like a flail, tossing it at opponents in mid to long range.

Shikai Abilities:
- Getsuga Tenshō — As soon as the blade is slashed, Zangetsu absorbs Ichigo's spiritual energy and releases a highly condensed 'slash' of reiatsu. The shape of which looks like a crescent moon. It carries with it great force, capable of causing large-scale damage and destruction. While being the only attack Ichigo knows with Zangetsu so far, Ichigo has come up with clever ways to diversify it. Such as striking the ground to create an omnidirectional blast to blast away incoming attacks. Even slashing at the ground to upturn it and crush everything in it's path.
Bankai Name: Tensa Zangetsu (Heaven Chain Slaying Moon)

Bankai Appearance: Tensa Zangetsu, awesome.
Tensa Zangetsu is noted for being a highly unusual form for a Shinigami's Bankai. Usually when a Shinigami attains Bankai, it takes the form of a massive creature or effect. This is due to the bankai being a 'full release' of the Shinigami's power, thus creating a grander form. Ichigo's Bankai actually shrinks his sword down to a daito with a completely black blade. The corss guard as well has a unique shape, four prongs bent out to form the shape of the kanji for full. As a blade Tensa Zangetsu is superb, able to deflect many incredibly strong attacks. Rather than cloth like his Shikai, Tensa Zangetsu has a small chain coming from the base of the hilt. In addition while in Bankai ichigo gains a shikakusho with red lining, in the style of Zangetsu himself. The amount of damage his coast sustains is proportionate to the remaining amount of reiatsu Ichigo has left.

Bankai Abilities:
- Getsuga Tenshō — Tensa Zangetsu has it's own form of the Getsuga Tensho, yet it can still be used in the same manners. However the power of the Getsuga Tensho in Bankai form is exponentially greater. When in Bankai the blasts take on a dense black color with a red outline. Their paths can be controlled and their speed and power are augmented explosively. Ichigo can also keep getsuga Tensho within Tense Zangetsu to heavily augment his swings.
- Hyper-Speed Combat — Due to the nature of Ichigo's Bankai he is able to take the power of it and heavily condense it into his body. He then unleashes this power in combat to preform incredibly high-speed movements. His new speed is so great in fact it enhances his Flash Step prowess to create dozens of after images to confuse his opponent.
- Enhanced Strength — Ichigo's Bankai further increases his natural strength. Even non augmented, his strength is formidable but when in Bankai he can easily stop powerful blows without feeling the repercussion. Strong enough to cut through even Espada level Hierro with some ease. The sudden strength boost can also be used to break free of binds.
- Enhanced Reiatsu — Ichigo's reiatsu in Bankai is incredibly potent, enough to suffocate humans just by being around him as he releases. It is a thick and heavy dark mass of reiatsu that, despite how new he was to Bankai, it remained in a solid form when he first used it. His already large reiatsu reserve has also explosively increased, making him a truly formidable opponent.
- Enhanced Bankai Duration — To the point, due to the nature of his Bankai it doesn't take nearly as much reiatsu to 'maintain' the form. Other Shinigami when activating Bankai release a great amount of spiritual power, Ichigo merely condenses all of his. This creates a Bankai form that can be held much longer than any other Bankai users of his level.
