The Esper Academy.
The presence of various spiritual organizations in the human world has resulted in interesting effects in lucky humans. These humans have developed spiritual sensitivity and unique abilities. These abilities range from minor, worthless, techniques to those that risk destroying the world. One person noticed the problem of letting such powers to remain on their own.
Five years ago, The Allison Summers Liberals Arts Academy for the Gifted, and Unusual (The Esper Academy) was created by a brilliant woman, hoping to gather all the confused and/or dangerous humans that have gained, or have the potential of gaining, special abilities. The Esper Academy seeks to train those humans to control those abilities, and to appreciate them. The students are also taught the ways of the Human World, through common classes, the ways of the Spiritual World, through lessons of the soul and Reiatsu, and leadership skills.
The Esper Academy is found in a town just an hour drive, south from Karakura Town. To the average human, The Esper Academy looks like a prestigious institution of education. The Professors at the school strive to teach the students well. The illusion is created that the students are receiving an astounding education. Regular humans are allowed inside the school, but many mind manipulation techniques, and technology, force those entering to not acknowledge the unusual activities. Barrier, and similar, are provided to keep nosey beings from noticing the school. Students that are kicked from the school will have their minds erased and/or altered.
Recently, the Principal of The Esper Academy has tried contacting the leaders of the other two factions of the Human World: Hidenseido and The Quincy Clan.
History:
June 1904 – Allison Summers is born to a High-Status Family in England. Her father was an important figure of state and as such her family was wealthy and lived in a luxurious mansion. Throughout her early life, she lived up to the expectations of her parents. She was an only child and so those parents expected her to do great things. She was schooled in every subject that they dubbed important for her to know. She learned of politics, science, military strategy and other complex subjects that would make it bother a powerful woman and an excellent wife. Throughout her early life, Allison wanted to do something more interesting with her life. She dreamed of running away from home and becoming a great, adventurous woman. Of course at the time these kinds of thoughts were seen as crazy talk, especially coming from a rich, young woman.
December 1912 – Allison Summers’ boredom is finally quelled by a sudden discovery. She realized that she had a unique ability, unlike any other human. At first she wanted to show it off, but she figured she would be shunned and possibly pointed out as a witch. She had no proof whether or not she was a witch, but she did not care. Over the next two years she practiced with the amazing ability.
September 1914 – Allison Summers’ parents died in September of this year. They had left England to handle important business in southern European countries. Unfortunate for them, a riot began as a result of the conflict going on in Europe and they were the targets of some extremist groups hoping for political change. Between the time of learning of her parents deaths and the time she inherited her parents fortune, Allison was unfazed by the events. She accepted the fortune without question and left the home she had lived in for years.
Throughout the next year she traveled through England searching for more people like her. Her clothing and money spending did provoke thieves and the sort, but she merely used such persons to practice her abilities on. In time she did eventually find someone like herself, a lot like herself. She met up with Winter Blake sometime in March of 1915. There means of meeting was the result of Winter learning to sense Reiatsu and sensing Allison’s stronger aura. The two got together well, so well that they fabricated an amazing idea together.
April 1947 – Over the course of almost 32 years, the two girls executed their plan one step at a time. They both examined and learned of the spiritual world. They improved the abilities in which they were gifted with. They search for years for a place where they hoped to be able to bring together others like theirselves. They found that place in a small town in Japan. Not only did the small town have a high spiritual signature, but a small distance away was a city that housed an even larger signature (Karakura Town). Using her large fortune and genius intelligence, Allison had a building created in this town. The building the two ladies hoped to turn into a school.
February 1950 – The two girls spent the time it took for their school to be built taking classes in important subjects that would help them run the school and create curriculum. It was also spent looking for teachers with special powers and students the same. Quickly, they found many like themselves with interesting powers. Without hesitation, the two woman used the powers of those they recruited to help better prepare the school. By the time The Esper Academy was built, the Special Human Tracking System was already developed. They school began to function as they planned in July of 1950.
September 1950 – The school was attacked by a large horde of what The Esper Academy would eventually call Hollow. It took some effort, but the students and teachers were able to dispose of them. That is not without some fatalities. Following these horrendous events, Principal Allison Summers developed the barrier that would guarantee that the school would never be found again by such creatures. From then on, Principal Summers would rarely be seen for she was limited in her activities while she focused on the barrier.
Mid-1990 – The Esper Academy notices the Quincy Clan that resided not far from their school. At first it was thought that they were just powerful humans like those in which The Esper Academy housed, but they quickly noticed differences. Either way, Principal Summers began negotiations with the Quincy Clan. Learning that the clan was dying out, she offered to allow young Quincy to come to The Esper Academy and be taught like the others taught there.
1998 – The Esper Academy acknowledged the existence of the Bount and from them learned of the Shinigami and Soul Society. In appreciation of the help the Bount gave them, The Esper Academy began looking for Bount and invited them to stay on their campus.
2004 – The Modsouls were the next to be welcomed into The Esper Academy. Really, it was sympathy that drove them to be accepted.
Two Year Gap – The Esper Academy watched closely the events that occurred at Karakura Town during Aizen’s Invasion. They did not know what the pretenses of the battle included, but they knew that something major was happening. Conflict arose in The Esper Academy since the events of FKT. Vice-Principal Blake was causing trouble with Principal Summers constantly. She felt that the Shinigami had no right taking foot in the Human World and The Esper Academy should take it upon themselves to make it clear to them. She cited the information provided by the Bount, Quincy and Modsouls to create her conclusion. Principal Summers ignored the arguments brought up by her Vice-Principal for three clear reasons; The Shinigami Worked to protect the Human World, The Esper Academy wasn’t an army, and the Shinigami were noticeably stronger than those of The Esper Academy.
Teachers:Principal – Level 5+:
Very few students actually see the Principal of The Esper Academy. Her full name is Allison Summers, but students and faculty refer to her as Principal Summers. Very little is known about her abilities. At one point it was believed she was a barrier creator, but the fact that she hasn't aged in 100 years makes people question whether that is the correct answer. She herself has responded by saying her Specialty would be Seals.
Vice-Principal – Level 5+:
Vice-Principal Winter Blake is also rarely seen for she handles the administration parts of the school. Her abilities are also unknown, but the Principal has stated that her Specialty would also revolve around seals. Teachers and Students that have seen the two heads of The Esper Academy recently have noticed the two seem to be bothered by one-another.
Professors:Head Nurse – Level 5:
The head of the Medical Wind of The Esper Academy, She/He is also responsible for teaching the students with healing and supportive abilities. Generally she or he would have healing abilities, possibly with some protective abilities. Level 5 is given them due to the importance of their job in keeping the students at The Esper Academy healthy.
Athletics Professor – Level 5:
This guy or girl is in charge of instructing the various PE classes at The Esper Academy. He or she is not the only one teaching them, but is in charge of teaching the students that would teach the classes he or she does not teach. When not teaching PE, or assisting students teaching PE, then he or she would be assisting students with melee based abilities.
Arts Professor – Level 4:
The Arts Professor has three jobs. She or he teaches the Art and Music classes at The Esper Academy. This includes teaching the upper level students how to teach some of the classes as well. The next job would be to assist students with artistic abilities to better those abilities. Finally she or he assists the Level 0 students try to develop abilities.
Spiritual Analysis Professor– Level 5:
The Spiritual Analysis Professor teaches classes that describe what is known about Reiatsu, Reishi, Soul Society and the other races in the universe. She or he teaches the majority of the classes, only allowing top ranked students to teach alongside her. Just like the Arts Professor, the task of assisting Level 0 students develop abilities is another important job.
Physical Sciences Professor– Level 4:
Just as the Spiritual Analysis Professor tackles the world from the spiritual side, the Physical Sciences Professor tackles it from the physical side. That’s not to say that he or she merely studies chemistry, biology and physics, but also what physical changes occur while Humans use their unique abilities. When working alongside the Spiritual Analysis Professor, the outcomes are about as interesting as those produced by the duo of Mayuri and Kisuke in the Soul Society.
Spiritual Application Professor – Level 4:
The Spiritual Analysis Professor's job is to study the makings of the spiritual worlds, the races in it and the energies that flow through it. The Spiritual Application Professor's job is understand the use of spiritual energies as a means to develop ability. It his or her job to teach students the basics of ability use and how to improve abilities. He or she must be familiar with various kinds of abilities so as to more easily help students learn their abilities.
Minus Soul Studies Professor – Level 4:
This professor studies and teaches about what is known about Hollow and Arrancar.
Locations:Classrooms:
The classrooms are divided between the main building, and three other buildings. Each building hosts a grade tier, with the Upper Secondary Tier found in the main building.
Garden:
The Garden is 50 feet long and 25 feet wide. It includes many varieties of plants and trees, taken care of by the students and Professors. This place is found in the front of the campus.
Training Ground:
A location similar to the Shinigamis’ training ground; this one includes a large pool. The training grounds are to the West of the stadium and include a large around of training tools, as well as the forest behind the campus.
Medical Wing:
The Medical Wing can be found on the Western end of the main building. At the beginning of the wing is a waiting area for those with minor injuries and sicknesses. Further down the hallway, there are 10 classrooms and roughly 15 medical rooms. The Head Nurse can be found in her office at the end of this hallway. Across from her office is a large room where students that have sustained severe injuries are taken care of.
Stadium:
The Esper Academy hosts a massive football stadium. The Stadium has bleaches circling the whole football field and lights that will make it look like day, all day. Around the football field is a running track. In the surrounding area are fields for various other sports. The Esper Academy uses extreme methods to block the activities in these areas from view, so these are all found in the back of the campus, surrounded by buildings.
Gym:
Found on the East side of campus, this massive Gymnasium is one of the joys of The Esper Academy. Students come here to play inside sports and practice their fighting skills. On one end of the building, there is an area covered in exercise equipment. The walls of the building have been reinforced to withstand mighty blows -surprisingly, the place is almost the size of a football stadium.
Housing:
Student living areas are divided between buildings throughout the campus. Level 5s get single rooms within the main building, conveniently near their classes. Level 3s and 4s generally get doubles rooms in the buildings with the classrooms. Level 1s and 2s are placed in the buildings further from the classrooms, 2-3 to a room. Level 0s get the worst housing, found in a building near the training grounds, 3-4 to a room. Boys and Girls are usually separated by floors or wings.
Main Building:
The main building is the largest on campus. It includes many important places such as the Classrooms, the Medical Wing, the Cafeteria, Principal Office, Administration and the Auditoriums. The place is five floors high, with the administrators found on the second floor, Level five males on the third floor, Level five females on the fourth floor and Professors on housing on the fifth floor.
Prison:
Unruly students will be placed here for a time determined by the vote of the Professors plus the Principals.
Enrollment:Humans with unique abilities, or the potential to learn such abilities, will receive letters requesting that they join The Esper Academy. The Esper Academy’s prestige allows for it to receive funding from both government and sponsors. These funds result in no tuition required of the selected students. Students that turn down the offer will be harassed until they accept.
Bount and Quincy can enter the school, but the quincy will be under watch.
Punishment:Students acting disorderly will either be imprisoned, or kicked from the school. Those kicked will have their powers sealed and their memory altered. These are students that threaten the safety of the school by running away, telling people about the school, or tampering with the barriers around the place.
Those that severely injury others or destroy the school and/or other buildings, will be imprisoned. Severe cases will result in permanent detainment. The families of the imprisoned will have their mind altered to forget the student. It is also possible that the student will just be kicked.
Grades:Students with High IQs, or abilities to substitute such, can move up in grades ahead of time. Grades generally have minimal impact on a Human's potential level.
Daycare Tier:
There is only one level within this tier - it includes the youngest students in the school. The most responsible older students are employed to watch these students and keep them under control. When these students have unusually strong abilities, they are generally watched more carefully. Ages 3- 6.
Elementary Tier:
Grades within this tier include the first five years are real education. These grades are similar to grades 1 - 6 in both the American and Japanese systems. It has not been the case that a student not graduate from this tier on the first try. Students in these grades will not be allowed off campus. Ages 6 - 12.
Lower Secondary Level:
It is within this tier that younger, teenage students are found. These students are found to be more responsible than the others, and so they are allowed off campus after proper notification of the Professors. Students in these grades are typically the most dangerous because they wish to use their abilities to impress others. In the American system, these grades would include grades 7 - 9. Then in the Japanese system, they would equals the grades generally found in Lower Secondary school. Ages 12 - 15.
Upper Secondary Tier:
Young adults generally show up in this tier. The grades here are equivalent to the American system's grades 10 - 12, and the Japanese Upper Secondary grades. Within The Esper Academy, these grades are the last. Those graduating may stay and better their spiritual knowledge and abilities, but they usually go on to college. These students are allowed to leave campus whenever they please. Ages 15 - 18.
Levels:Level 0 –
This bracket would include humans that lack special abilities, but have extremely usual spiritual awareness and Reiatsu. These humans are expected to eventually gain abilities, and will have their memory erased if they fail to learn any after a year. Also, included in this section are students that have pitiful abilities, or there’s the possibility that the student has an ability, but it is too minor to be noticed. Generally these humans fall within the High BL/Low IL rank bracket.
Level 1 –
Students in this bracket have recently gained an ability, or their ability is rather weak, but not pitiful (It will grow over time). Those here cannot control even one of their abilities, usually. This and Level 2 are equivalent to the Gotei 13’s unseated. Usually humans falling in the Lower IL rank bracket belong to this level.
Level 2 –
Better understanding of own abilities. Usually they have no problems controlling the abilities they have. They also have come to understand the spiritual world a lot better than those just entering The Esper Academy. These students are proficient enough to improve their abilities solo if they want to. Higher IL/Entering Al rank bracket.
Level 3 –
The Student has complete control over their abilities, but lack the fighting skills, or the Reiatsu to allow a higher level. Abilities that are average in power are usually found here. This Level is equal to the Gotei 13’s 20th-3rd seats. Usually Lower AL rank bracket. Students are required to take a test, testing their ability control and school knowledge, in order to achieve this rank. The tests are done at certain intervals and in groups. This test mostly focuses on ability control.
Level 4 – Accepting more of these than Level 5s, but still limited (20).
Above average Ability control, ability power and fighting skills. These students are just short of the best. Equivalent to the Gotei 13’s lieutenants. These Students are generally within the Higher AL rank bracket. They, like the level 3, require a test to be taken. This test focused mostly on school and spiritual knowledge (Including Reiatsu Control).
Level 5 – Only Accepting a handful at any one time (10).
Professors – These are the people that teach the students. Usually, they understand the spiritual world, as well as the human world (So they can teach common subjects). Most of them are Level 5 humans. Not all people that teach at The Esper Academy are professors, some Level 5 are given the task of teaching others.
Level 5s are acknowledged to be the strongest of the humans at The Esper Academy, and in the world. They not only have the control over their abilities and fighting skills to excel above all others, but their abilities either provide great utility for the user, great utility for others, or great destruction. The students of this rank tend to get special treatment from professors and other students. They are qualified to teach ability/spiritual related classes. These humans generally fall in the ML rank bracket. They must take a long test, testing their ability control, school knowledge and their ability to use their ability practically.
