Day Two; Part One; 8:00am – Kido Training – Hiryukurai && Soren Hiryukurai
The sun had begun to rise over the large forest in which Sayurin trained. Around her, the fight from the previous night became apparent, as well as Yuri’s training. Trees were de-leafed and destroyed around the area. Today, Sayurin sits here eating the breakfast she had packed for her training period. “This is good. Those bakers must have used a new recipe.” She said this as she bit into a bread roll about as long as her head. “Senmidori doesn’t seem to be up.” She began to chew some more. “I’ll have to train without her till she’s ready.” She threw the last piece of bread into her mouth and then jumped of the branch she sat on.
The branch was only a few feet off the ground, so her fall wasn’t that detrimental. “What should I train?” She asked herself, not having come prepared for these training sessions. As she asked that question, she remembered the scene from the day before. ‘Could I have done better in that fight?’ She asked herself, meditating as to if she did anything poorly then. It was then that she remembered the multiple times she casted the spell Byakurai, only to fail. “Wasn’t there a Kido like Byakurai?”
Usually she would have pulled the slip of paper she had tucked away in a pouch over her breast, but this time she went to her bag and pulled out the Kido book she had given by Captain Unohana. She flipped the book open and proceeded to the sections that covered Hado. On the page that displayed the description for Byakurai, there was a small paragraph that described a similar, yet more complex, spell. She took note of the page number in which it pointed her to and she turned right to that page. “Hirukurai.. Soren Hiryukurai” She saw the description for the one spell that was described, as well as a stronger version of that.
“Wow, it even mentions Byakurai in the descriptions,” She said as she read through both descriptions. She read the descriptions thoroughly; just like she did for every other spell she read and learned. “This is perfect; if I learn these, I won’t have to worry so much about casting Byakurai and it missing."
“Hado 4: Byakurai!” She exclaimed as she pointed her finger towards a nearby rock. Instantly, a line of lightning shot forward from her finger and struck the rock. She did this to get a feel for the original spell before she attempted the other two. “hm.. They’re just like this, but I can manipulate them. I just need to focus on the flow of energy and control it.” With that said, she placed the book back into her bag. She looked around for something to practice on. Upon walking some yards from her camp, she found a 30 foot drop in the forest. Jumping down to the bottom, Yuri intended to use the rock wall as the target for her casts.
Yuri faced the rock wall before pointing her finger out towards it. “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” She stated with grand ferocity. When she casted, she expected something that felt like Byakurai; she expected the flow of energy to be like Byakurai. There were very few similarities to Byakurai. The energy shot forth far more faster and immediately Sayurin lost control. The line of energy flew from her finger and moved in the most erratic path. It was so bad that Sayurin was forced to Shunpo to move out of its path because it turned on her.
“That.. that was nothing like Byakurai!” She stated, not expecting what had occurred to occur. That’s not to say that she lost confidence in her ability to learn the spell, she just was shocked to find that she needed to control it far more than she expected. Without hesitation, though, she walked back over and faced the rock. With her finger pointed forward, Sayurin attempted the spell again. A lack of control wasn’t new to her, she’s felt this feeling before. She knew that she just needed to quickly gain control of the fast moving bolt. “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” With that said, another streak of lightning shot forth from her fingers.
Unlike the first time, Yuri was ready when she casted this spell this time. She felt for the energy that was flowing through her finger and outwards, as it shot outwards. As she tried to gain control of it, her fingers and hand began to thrash about in accordance to the movements that the streak of lightning was making. Having had read the description, she knew that if it moved too far from her, it would disperse automatically. Knowing this, she tried to at least keep it from going too far, so that she could practice her control over it.
Back and forth, the lightning thrashed. ‘Pull it back, pull it back.’ Sayurin was reminded of a time long, long ago when she was alive in the human world. There was a time when she went fishing with her family. Through trying to pull the lightning back, she was reminded of trying to bring the line in when a fish was caught. The thrashing about was so similar to that time for her. At first the lightning moved with such speed that just the jerking through her off, but over time she found that it was bothering her less and less. She was gaining more control over it. However, after a couple of minutes the lightning dispersed on its own accord.
“Damn, I should have expected that was going to happen.” Sayurin was now experienced with Kido and similar abilities to know that such things didn’t last if they weren’t fed energy. She simply brought her finger up and tried again. “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” She chanted before feeling the lightning fly forth. This time she was far more ready for it and got it under control a lot quicker. She kept working on her control of it, this time feeding it more energy when it felt like it was going to disperse. She gave a breath once to prepare her for her next action. With the sways and jumps of the line of lightning understood well enough, Sayurin predicted the next jump in the lightning and reacted by sending a burst of Reiatsu up it’s line to regulate its movement. With that done, she tried to move it about to make sure she had it perfectly under control. Content with her control, she forced the lightning back a bit, before sending it forward at the rock wall.
Upon smashing through the rock wall, the lightning dispersed into nothingness. Looking at the wall, Yuri saw that there was now a large hole in the wall for a distance. The area around that hole was severely cracked, looking as if it would break apart more if someone just blew on it. Bringing her fingers forward, Yuri tried it again, “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” The lightning flew from her fingers and she forced it into the wall after accounting for some resistance.
She casted the spell again and again, making sure that she could control its movements without worrying about it flying off. Not just that, she made sure to practice with the wall at different directions relative to where she was. She’d have the wall to her back and have the lightning turn completely around to hit it. With the wall to the left, she had the lightning turn upon leaving her finger. It would seem that she had full control over it, but Yuri wasn’t satisfied. “Hm.. I seem to have this one down, but what about the other one.”
Sayurin was referring to the third Byakurai-like spell, Soren Hiryukurai. “This one is listed as an advance Kido; in other words, it is about as strong as Raikoho.” She said this as she held the book, which she retrieved right after acknowledging her success with the first spell. “This cannot be too much harder, it’s just two Hiryukurai.” She placed the book back into her bag before getting back up and running over towards the rock wall.
“White dragon whose potential was sought, gather more of your kind and claim the world as your own!” She said as she pointed her hand, once again, towards the rock wall that the cliff was made of. Once again she underestimated the spell she was trying to cast. Knowing that the spell was as powerful as Raikoho, she forced similar amounts of Reiatsu into it, but it would be the control that causes problems. Two streams of lightning shot forth from Sayurin’s hand. Expecting this, she tried to control them both like she did with the first spell. At first she tried to control both, which seemed to work for just an instant, but immediately problems occurred. She felt herself losing control of the one stream and began to focus on it, but the moment she focused on that one, the other one went out of control. Immediately, she tried to control the second one again, but that finally forced her to lose control. The two streams of lightning began thrash about. At first Yuri tried to gain control of them, but it became futile. Not wanting to risk her life, she tried to cut the energy off so that it would disperse.
It took all of her skill to dodge the two lines of lightning. They were like two snakes trying to snap at her. When Yuri had finally stopped them both, the ground in front of her had been obliterated by them. “I really hope I'll learn a lesson before I kill myself.” She said as she stared at the two craters in front of her, in awe. “This spell is obviously a lot more powerful than the first.”
Just like earlier, this failure wasn’t going to stop her, but what would be different is how long it would take her to at least gain control of them both. “White dragon whose potential was sought, gather more of your kind and claim the world as your own!” She stated, but a moment later she found herself in a similar situation as in the first cast. She tried to control both at the same time, but then lost control of one. She tried, multiple times, to try to gain control of the two bolts.
“Okay, lets recap then.” She said before preparing to cast Hiryukurai. “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” Yuri felt the familiar bolt of lightning fly from her hand and she brought it under her control. She began to move it about without problem, thanks to her earlier practice. “Hm..” She was thinking how to apply what she knew of the first version of the spell to the second spell. She brought her left hand forward and casted the spell a second time. A similar streak of lightning shot out of her left hand. “Huh?” The second stream threw her off for a moment, but she was able to slowly gain control of it over a couple minutes.
“Why is this so much more easier than the other one?” She asked herself. “In either case, there are two of these streams.” She started moving around the two streams. As they moved about, she hoped to find something that would help her improve the stronger spell. She would move one stream, then the other then the first.. “Why aren’t I moving them both at the same time?” She asked before giving it a try. Quickly, she found that it was far more difficult to move them both simultaneously. “That still doesn’t explain why the other one is so much harder to control.” She knew that the other one was stronger and that might have to do with it, but she didn’t see that as plausible enough.
“The only difference is that the other one comes from the same hand… They stem from the same spot, so when I try to move one I might be moving the other.” She reasoned as she continued to move the two lines of lightning about. She thought back to how she was controlling these two; she was sending Reiatsu into them to force them in the direction she desires. If too much is forced in, then it might go up the wrong path and affect the other line. “If that happens, then I lose control of one.. and then when I’m worrying about that one, the other one goes wild.” Yuri moved both hands to her sides, dispersing the streams of lightning in the process.
“White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” Prepared this time, she tried to force the Reiatsu more precisely up the veins of lightning. It seemed like it was working, the trashing of the two began to slow down considerably. It looked like everything was going well before she lost control again. The lightning began to jump about, but Yuri knew what was happening this time. She tried placing a little more Reiatsu in one and less in the other. The balancing was difficult, but she could tell when she was doing well based on how little they moved. She made sure to keep a steady stream of energy into the veins so that they wouldn’t disperse. Just like with the first spell, she tried to get the two streams to move about. Unlike the first Kido, there were more situations to account for.
When she was satisfied with her control again, she recasted the spell, “White Dragon, Whose Path Aims for the North; Realize Your Potential and Destroy the World!” Upon the completion of the incantation, she felt for the flow of Reiatsu and responded in the way she had grown familiar to. She had the two lines of lightning under control and so she went for the attack. Promptly, she shot both forward towards the rock wall and they hit without problem. She continued to cast the spell and use it on the wall multiple times.
“This is looking really good,” Yuri told herself as she proceeded with attacking the wall. Once she was completely satisfied, she ran back over to her bag to look over the Kido book.
Day Two; Part Two; 1:00pm – Kido Training – Rikujōkōrō
"Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!" Yuri stated, as she pointed towards a nearby boulder. Her hand began to glow a dazzling yellow, but what was more interesting was what appeared in front of her. Distorted sections of light appeared in the air in front of her. Not only were they not over her target, the boulder, but there was only 3 of them and they were slowly flickering out of existence. Yuri tried swinging her arm multiple times, trying to get these sad images to move to her target, but they wouldn’t budge. “Come on, move!” She said, ignoring the fact that she did a poor job in forming the spell.
After a moment of no results, she decided to walk over to the lights. One looked like a shard of glass and floated to her left, but just a few feet ahead of her. The second was triangular and floated ahead of her. The last one was the closest to what she imagined they should look like, and it floated to her right and closer to her target. As intelligent a young woman she was, she decided she would touch one to see if she could. Her hand came to the one on the left and simply passed through; the light responded by dispersing into nothingness. “That’s not good.” She said as she walked over to the one on the right, the more complete one. “What about this..” She placed her hand on it and suddenly felt as if her hand was paralyzed.
To her left she noticed the middle light fade away, just as the first did. Unfortunately for her, the final light remained and bound her hand in place. “Hey!” She pulled as hard as she could for a couple minutes – at that point the light faded like the others and returned the feeling in her hand to her. “I don’t know why they turned out so wrong.” She remembered what occurred just a few minutes ago.
After using Soren Hiryukurai rather effectively, Yuri decided to attempt an advanced bakudo. After reading over the various bakudo descriptions, she settled on Bakudo 61 because she thought she had a grasp on how to use it effectively. She did some Reiatsu exercises, attempting to focus her Reiatsu at multiple spots on her body. Of course, being able to focus Reiatsu at points on her body wasn’t enough to give her experience in focusing Reiatsu at different points ahead of her body.
“I figured this would be like Soren Hiryukurai, it seemed similar..” Soren Hiryukurai caused her problems because she had to precisely release energy out a similar point into two flows of lightning. She reasoned that ability was the same, starting with Reiatsu at a single point, her hand, and separating it into multiple points. “I just need to focus more during the creation.” She said to herself, certain that she could learn the spell like she learned every one prior.
"Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!" She stated as she pointed her yellow-glowing hand forward. ‘Focus, focus’ she thought as she imagined the shapes depicted in the Kido book. At first, she imagined the points at which the beams of light would originate. Once she had a feeling for those points, she allowed her Reiatsu to form at those points and she molded it. ‘It’s like forming the wings with Tsubasa no Mitsukai’ she told herself as she sculpted the Reiatsu into the beams. The beams began to form, but Yuri arrived at a problem; one beam didn’t form and 2 were misshapen.
The beams that were created seemed to be positioned well, but the fore mentioned problems were rather major. One of the beams looked like it was left at the halfway point and another had cracks in it. Yuri tried to force the beams towards the boulder, and the completed ones successfully moved, but the unsuccessful ones did not. The ones that moved hit the boulder, but Sayurin was unsure whether they did their task. She walked over and tried to push the boulder, “It won’t even budge.” As she tried to move it, she looked to the beams of light that held it and saw that they discharged energy whenever she tried to move it. “It seems that these ones work – I just gotta get the other ones to form correctly.”
"Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!" She stated once more, as she casted the spell again. She tried, as hard as she could, to get the lights to form as she intended them to. In an instant, the lights appeared, but Yuri noticed something off still. “They all start to form at the same rate, but then some start to fall behind.” She looked at the beams of light, noticing that there were six of them, but two were only half complete. Just like before, she forced them to fly towards the boulder. They all flew towards the target, but the two unfinished ones only flew at it until they reached the spot where they would have stop had they been complete. The length of them, as such, meant that they would only float near the target.
“I’m certain that this is similar to Soren Hiryukurai, so the problem might be similar. With that spell, the problem was I wasn’t balancing the Reiatsu as the lightning was created. There were only two then and I was having problems, but this time there are six beams.” Yuri ran through the situation as logically as she could, to get an answer to her dilemma. “Then, the reason they are lagging behind is because I begin to focus on the others, but not them.” Sayurin began to visualize the creation of the six beams; she wanted to see if she could recall the time when the two broken beams began to be ignored. ‘I’ll focus on all six at one time, and trust that they will be created.' She thought as she went to cast the spell again.
That wasn’t the end to her failure; she had to try numerous times to actually bring herself to not hesitate during the creation of the beams. The problem was similar to the one that occurred in the previous training; Yuri would feel something off in the Reiatsu flow and try to respond, ruining the spell in the process. The only option was to try the spell again and again until she could ignore or react to that hesitation. That wasn’t enough though, once she got to that point, she had to continue practicing the spell until she felt that she could get the beams to appear without problem.
"Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!" She stated as she felt the Reiatsu flow to her hand. Her right hand began to glow with a bright yellow color and she pointed towards her next target, a nearby tree. Six beams of light quickly formed; each of the six was formed to look precisely like those shown in the Kido book. Immediately upon creation, they flew down towards the tree at an astounding speed. The tree was bound in place, but it was more interesting to note that various objects in the surrounding area had similar beams of light binding them. In order to get an idea as to how long the beams would last, Yuri decided that she would cast the spell on everything she could. The first few looked somewhat distorted, but as she went around her task, the beams became far more fine.
After this one try, Yuri walked over to the tree to examine the beams of light. “Hm.. they seemed to be formed alright.” She walked around the tree to see the results of her practice. “They all look exactly alike – the sizes don’t look too bad either.” She said this as she walked over to her bag and picked up the book that she sat on top of it. She looked down at the book and then at the beams of light that littered the place, binding every structure that could be seen. “Looks good.” She turned the page in the Kido book and began to read.
