((No trees were destroyed in the making of this training thread… just leaves.. and branches… well in the end there were a lot of destroyed trees.. and the ones that remained, burned…
a whole forest was destroyed in the making of this training thread.))
“I can’t believe that Lieutenant Hinamori is allowing me to take another couple days off to train.” Yuri stated as she was walking down a road in Rukongai. She thought back to the events of the day prior, where she had asked Momo Hinamori to allow her to train in Rukongai again. “Maybe it’s because of your work ethic?” Senmidori reasoned. Sayurin was forced to think back to the large piles of paperwork she helped the lieutenant with, probably doing more work than Hinamori herself. “Have I really been working that hard?”
Sayurin was now walking south into Rukongai. She recalled a rather quiet forest down this way and that was where she intended to train. It was also a common place for stronger shinigami to train because their attacks were too strong for the training facility in Seireitei. As she walked down the road, she had a large smile upon her face. It had been a week since she learned Bankai, and this was her first training day since. Not only that, but this training session was going to last a couple days. Her mood was further improved by the thought of her relationship with Senmidori growing considerably over the last week.
Yuri had been walking for hours now, making conversation with Senmidori to pass the time. She now saw the large trees that she assumed to be the forest that she intended to train at. Happy to finally be near her destination, she went into a dash towards the area. At first she simply ran, but then she began to Shunpo. Each step, her Shunpo distance increased until she reached her maximum distance per step. She then began to jump up higher in elevation, using her air walking ability. It didn’t take long for her to be standing in the air above the forest.
Day One; Part One; 3:00pm – Hoho Training: Running? + Wind Force
Sayurin started her training by performing leg stretches on the branch of a large tree. She stretched one leg and then the other. She wanted to make sure the muscles in each leg would sustain the many training exercises she had planned for the day. Once the was ready, she stood on the branches and analyzed the area around her.
“Okay, now for some laps around the forest!” Yuri said with a smile. “Tree to tree, if I touch the ground, I lose.” With that said, she pushed off the branch in which she stood on. She quickly jumped to the next branch, a small distance away. Her momentum allowed her to then jump to the next branch. She kept jumping from branch to branch throughout the forest until she felt it was time to do something more complex.
In time she began throwing tricks into her jumps; she would hit the side of a branch and jump from it rather than jumping on top of it or, rather than hitting a branch at all, she used her momentum to quickly run up the side of a tree before flipping backwards off the tree and onto a branch. The more she jumped about, the further the jumps she attempted. In time she reached a point where she was narrowly hitting the branches she had targeted. When she missed the branches, she mostly ended up hitting a lower branch.
At one point her luck ran out and there was no branch to land on. Yuri remembered something from her fight with Senmidori; she remembered the on-air tricks she was doing to dodge Senmidori’s attacks. With that in mind she gathered Reiatsu in the palm of her hand. Quickly she moved the Reiatsu, like she did when air walking, and her descent began to slow down. The closer she got to the ground, the more she focused to slow herself down. Eventually she came to a complete stop, but because of her momentum and her hands were what were on the spiritual platform, she was able to do a gymnastic act where she used the spiritual platform like a pole in which she flipped around and forced her momentum upward, towards a nearby branch. “That was a close one,” Yuri said as she came down to the next branch.
That wasn’t enough to stop her in her tracks though; Yuri continued to move along the trees at the same pace. While she was jumping about, she was discussing with Senmidori about what just occurred. “I was so close to that one too. A lot of these ones I’m getting way too close to.” Yuri stated, trying hard not to bite her tongue as she landed on a branch midsentence. “Then jump further?” Senmidori questioned of her master. “Don’t you think I’m trying!? Not like I can magically increase the distance I can jump.” Yuri yelled back, pointing out what she thought to be the obvious. “Then learn how to do it!” Senmidori stated.
Senmidori’s statement intrigued Sayurin. Although she knew a decent amount of Kido, she never once thought of making one. How was she supposed to make one anyway? “You don’t need to make a Kido, you just need to control the Reiatsu correctly, though you have a Kido similar to what you intend to do, don’t you?” Senmidori pointed out, to Sayurin’s alarm. Senmidori was most likely referring to the spell ‘Reinforce’ which allowed her to imbue pieces of clothing with Reiatsu to buffer their defense. Yuri reasoned to herself that the concept might work; she figured placing Reiatsu at her feet would do some good.
As she continued to jump from tree to tree, Sayurin began to focus Reiatsu at the soles of her feet. “Nothing’s happening. Wait.. maybe I have to do this?” Yuri said as she waited before she hit the next branch. Upon impact with the branch, she forced the energies out of her feet. She wasn’t ready for the force that was applied to her foot as she went soaring. Fortunately for her, she landed on a branch. “That was way too much.. if I kept up like that, my feet would give out in no time.” Yuri began to practice the ability by significantly lowering the amount of Reiatsu placed in her feet. Not just that, she also tried to time the impact just right.
Sayurin jumped from tree to tree using this invented ability for a bit. There was a time period in which she didn’t mess with the Reiatsu flow as she jumped, and she noticed something. “Huh? Why does it feel as if the Reiatsu left my feet?” She asked herself after noticing such happening. She tried to reason why something like that would happen, but then it made sense to her that the Reiatsu wouldn’t just sit there for long. She tried focusing Reiatsu into her feet differently, in a way that Reiatsu would slowly leak out as she needed it. As she practiced for a while, she noticed it allowed her to go longer without reapplying Reiatsu to her feet. What she also notice was, that while she placed the Reiatsu in queue, there was a limit to how much she could force out in one go. Although it helped Yuri not push too much out, it was something important for her to note.
Yuri continued on with her tree-jumping training for a while longer. The large distances she barely made before were now being made flawlessly thanks to the Reiatsu flow to her feet increasing the distance she could jump. When Yuri was satisfied with how much she practiced, she gave herself permission to return to ground level.
Yuri wasn’t finished yet, she wanted to use this feet empowering ability while running. She ran about the forest, jumping over anything that might get in her way. What she noticed was that the time it took for the effect to wear off didn’t change all that much. She figured there would be a difference because she was stepping with her feet more, but she also reasoned that it might have to do with the less force required to run compared to jumping from tree to tree. “Either way, it seems as if this works for running to. Maybe I should try doing it while Shunpoing?” It was then that she moved onto the next part of her training.
Day One; Part Two;5:30pm – Hoho Training: Shunpo
Sayurin was back in the trees again, but this time she wasn’t merely jumping from tree to tree. Shunpo was the focus of her exercises now; she was shunpoing from tree to tree without stop. This was another game for her; this time she was grabbing leaves rather than trying not to fall. As Yuri stepped to another branch, she made certain to grab as many leaves of a color as she could. Because it was a season akin to fall in the living world, the leaves were a large assortment of colors.
“Red!” Yuri yelled as she shunpoed to the next branch. Immediately upon reaching the branch, she grabbed every and all red leaves that she saw. The exercise seemed simple enough, but it was quite so. Yes, she was trying to grab the leaves, but she wasn’t allowed to even touch another leaf while she was grabbing the one of the color and, as such, she could only grab one red leaf at a time. On top of those conditions she had to grab them all, regardless of number, within a second. Overall, she had to step to a specific branch without missing, grab a precise color of leaf one at a time without touching other leaves, choose another location to step, actually do the stepping, and succeed in doing all of this in no more than one second.
Of course Yuri failed to meet her expectations at first, but in time she began to get better and better at it. “This should do a lot of good for both Hoho and Hakuda.” She said out loud as she continued to step about. It should be noted that she was allowed to walk on air to a location, but she wanted to use as few steps to get to the next few leaves. Also, she wasn’t going to finish until all the leaves in a designated area were on the ground. It did take a while for her to meet this expectation.
As Yuri went along with these exercises, she tried hard to improve herself upon each step. Eventually her steps got to the proficiency that she could move to branches that would require multiple steps. On top of that, her time for grabbing all the leaves, though dependent on the number of leaves at the location, was somewhere around a fifth of a second. Needless to say, Yuri was becoming satisfied at her accomplishments. In time she was ready to perform the third part of her training for the day.
Day One; Part Three; 8:30pm – Hakuda Training – Sayurin v Trees
Yuri was now falling at excessive speeds towards a branch. The closer and closer she got to it, the faster she obviously went. It seemed as if she fell from the heavens down towards this branch and just when it seemed like she was readying herself to stop her impact with her legs, she flipped her body around and came down with her fists. Having successfully de-leafed every tree within the near area around her, Sayurin found her new task to be the de-branching of those same trees. Her fist hit the branch at a weak-point and smashed through it. Yuri brought her leg around to allow her to kick of the soon to be falling branch, to send her flying back into the air.
“I have to move quicker!” She said to herself, knowing that she had hit the branch way too slow. The training she was now doing was surprisingly Hakuda training. With no one to practice with in the middle of nowhere, she intended to practice on the various trees. It might not seem like the trees were to good of opponents, but Sayurin graciously fixed that problem. Simply put, Yuri allowed for her tree opponents to team up with the force known as gravity. As gravity forced Yuri downward, the amount of force she applied on anything was increased, but it also increased the damage she sustained as she assaulted the trees.
It should also be noted that she wasn’t simply attacking the trees. Yuri performed many different maneuvers as she fell onto the many branches. Where she saw multiple branches, she found it fit to hit down on one before striking quickly at the others before the one she struck, and was now standing on, fell away. She already had the methods of hand to hand combat down pack, she knew she needed something more to truly master them. Rather than practicing those methods, she improved other aspects of herself that would benefit them.
Yuri’s small body and lack of muscle tone made it difficult for her to manage with just pure strength. To fix this problem, she was improving the speed at which she moved and reacted. Faster and faster she moved about the branches, making sure to strike every one she could. There was even one point in which she felt it was necessary to use her high momentum, directed at a branch, and throw It at the tree itself. Her fist had smashed through the tree without a problem.
Yuri made sure to stick with Taijutsu stances as she attacked. She knew that speed was important, but being able to analyze her opponent when they were at hand-to-hand range was also important. Those stances she knew were meant to allow her to make sure her own defenses weren’t open, while she was able to find the openings in her opponents defenses. Against trees, it was another thing that didn’t seem like much, but when a tree is blown out of the way, the attacker must know to react or they’re striking at thin air.
Day One; Part Four; 10:00pm – Hoho/Hakuda Training – Angel’s Flight.. Fight?
Yuri now sat on a branch near the top of a tree. She had chosen the spot because she could see the full moon clearly, her fear of the dark wouldn’t bother her because the light of the moon covered so much at this elevation. There she sat examining her hands. After her previous exercises, they were now covered in so many blisters. “They hurt so much.” She said out loud, wincing in pain every time she tried to move her hand. “What was it that they taught us back at the academy?” She asked, trying to remember how to heal basic wounds.
“If I recall, when a soul has energy inside their body, it reacts with that which is outside and heals wounds rather quickly. Healer shinigami take advantage of that to heal wounds effectively by restoring the wounded’s Reiatsu first.” She began to think through some notes, not just from the academy, but also those she discovered since the academy. She remembered something from a long while back, it was a scene back before the last captain of squad 5 left. Shinji Hirako was explaining to another squad member how she could heal her wounds after training.
Yuri began to recall the explanation; she took one hand and placed it on the other. Knowing that she had all the Reiatsu she needed, she went straight to healing the wound. She focused on the wound itself and on it healing. Reiatsu was applied to the area as was necessary, at a slow pace so as not to cause any damage. Quickly, she saw results in her actions as the wounds began to heal up. Once she was done with one hand, she switched both hands and began to heal the other. Soon both of her hands were good as new. “There we go. That feels a lot better!” She said as she jumped up, almost falling off the branch as she did so. “One more exercise before I go to bed!”
“Tsubasa no Mitsukai” She stated as she focused Reiatsu into her back and forced it backwards. Wings began to form on her back; she made sure to develop them as she was used to, with beautiful detail. The next part of her training would include these wings of hers. “These wings themselves might not help with anything, but maybe Reiatus control, but they do increase my speed and I do fight with them!” She said before sense something behind her.
Up in the sky, where the moon shown, she saw something unusual. She knew what it was, but it was an uncommon sight in Soul Society, or at least this section of Soul Society. It was as if the sky had been ripped open to reveal something darker than night itself. Yuri watched, wide-eye, as something.. somethings came out from that opening. “Hollow? What are they doing here!” She asked, unsure of why the beasts would appear so close to the Seireitei (If you count half a day’s walk from it as close to it) “Maybe they were drawn by your Reiatsu.” Senmidori suggested. “Hm.. They makes sense, they probably sensed my Reiatsu and thought they’d attack me because I was alone.. I’ll teach them a lesson!” She said, completely confident in her ability to fight the hollow regardless of their numbers.
“Huh?” One of the hollows came darting towards her. This one was a flyer and Yuri had a feeling its friends were not because she sensed them coming from below. “A death god? With Angel wings? Or did we take a wrong turn and actually found heaven!” The hollow began to laugh, thinking it had said the funniest thing in the world. Although Yuri was confident in her ability to defeat the hollow, she knew she shouldn’t underestimate them and so she jumped off the branch she was standing on. Believing that the hollow included only one flyer, she felt that flying with the wings on her back would briefly reduce the amount of opponents.
Yuri flew a distance away, acknowledging the hollow flying after her. What shocked her was when she saw two more flying at her, ‘They’re all flyers?.. but why.. it’s because they wanted to sneak up on me!’ She briefly looked back to see what her pursuers looked like. One looked like a large bug, another like an ogre with wings and the last like a mantis. “The two bugs look really weak, but I’ve never seen anything like the third one."
As was expected of bug-like hollow, these ones began to fling needles and other long range effects at Yuri. Yuri’s time as a shinigami gave her some insight, she knew that the possibility of those attacks being poisonous was rather high and so she dodged them. Dodging the attacks wasn’t difficult, even with her wings, what was difficult was the sudden movement of the ogre looking one. One second he was tailing her, next he was in front of her. “Eh…!” Yuri screamed, not suspecting him to move so quickly.
“I know what you’re thinking, ‘Hollows don’t move that fast.’ I’m not a hollow!” It then went to attack Yuri. Yuri quickly moved out of the way of the attack. “Not a hollow?” Yuri stated as she dodged the incoming attacks. At one point she wasn’t certain if she could dodge with just the wings, so she focused Reiatsu at her feet and pushed off the air and over the ogre. “I’m what’s known as an arrancar! One of lord Aizen’s creations, You’re afraid now, I’m sure!” It said.
For a moment, that information shocked Yuri, but she quickly accepted the fact that this hollow was far weaker than what she thought an arrancar would be. Still, regardless of its strength, she wasn’t sure what it or the other two were capable of. They kept striking at her and she continued to dodge. Really, it wasn’t these hollows attacking her that occupied her mind now, ‘Im dodging them so easily! I must have really improved..’ Yuri thought as she kept on dodging. “Huh!?” She felt a sudden increase in energy from the ogre-looking one. When she turned to look, she saw that it was charging an orb of energy, a cero.
“No!” Yuri had to react quickly, she quickly flipped her body around so that she was upside down. She applied Reiatsu at her feet, not just to make a platform, but also to acquire the effect of the ability she learned earlier (Wind Force). She kicked off the air, that was now at her feet, and that allowed her to fly down a lot quicker than she could have. That wasn’t the last Cero the thing would throw out, it began shooting them like there was no tomorrow.
“The forest!” Yuri said as she flew down towards the forest, hoping that the trees would help protect. The hollow followed her down, but continued to strike at her. One hollow would try for a melee attack, another with a range and the ogre-looking one with a cero. Yuri would quickly focus Reiatsu at her feet to stop herself in midair and then use her winds to quickly change direction from there. She flew around the trees and branches with such agility and soon she turned the fight into a training exercise. The hollow would attack her and she would try to dodge their attacks faster and faster.
The tricks Yuri tried didn’t end. She would fold up her wings to let her fall out of the way, she would maneuver with the wings to dodge an attack. She would nose dive down before flying at insane speeds upward. She had gotten above the hollow using this trick and dispersed her wings. Using what she learned when she fought the trees, she came down with a destructive punch to the shoulder of the one bug-hollow. When it looked like she would fall to her death, she quickly focused Reiatsu back into her back in order to recreate the wings in midair.
“This has been going on far enough!” Yuri yelled. Although she was having fun with this special training, she knew that she wanted to go to sleep soon. "Sprinkled on the bones of the beast! Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle!" She began to focus Reiatsu into her two palm. Yuri was still flying away from the three hollow. Once she felt ready to fight, she used her wings to quickly turn towards the hollow, the hollow were now moving too quickly towards her to stop themselves. “Hado 63: Raikoho!” She yelled as she fired the Kido at the three hollow.
The attack hit the two bug-like hollow hard. They began to yell in pain as they sustained the damage from the blast. Yuri waited for the smoke to disperse to see the damage she caused, but before it did, the flying ogre came at her. She began dodged his attacks flawlessly. When Yuri had the chance, she looked back over to where the other two hollow were to find that they were destroyed.
“I thought you were a weak little Shinigami! Where you pull that from!” The arrancar yelled at her. “Weak!? I am Squad 5’s Third seat, Sayurin Momoiro! If you think I’m weak, then your sadly misled! Disappear in the Wind, Senmidori!” As she said that last part, she grabbed the dagger sheathed at her thigh. As she pulled the dagger out, she brought her other hand across its surface and the dagger divided into two chakram. “Go!” Yuri said as she threw both her Chakram towards the arrancar.
The arrancar used its speed ability to dodge the two chakram. “You missed!” It laughed as it came flying at Yuri. It struck at her with a fist; Yuri dodged. It struck again, Yuri struck back. They began to quickly trade blows, but Yuri was doing most of the damage. Yuri eventually pushed off him and stated, “Hado 4: Byakurai!” She pointed her finger forwards towards him, but he quickly moved out of the way. Yuri brought her other hand’s finger forward, “Hado 4: Byakurai!” She said again. Yuri quickly tried to hit him multiple times. When his speed allowed him to keep dodging, Yuri simply ignited the explosive Chakram that was on its way back. Not expecting the back attack, the arrancar had no way of defending itself.
Its wing obliterated by Yuri’s attack, the arrancar began to fall down towards the ground. “Let’s see you dodge it this time!” Yuri caught the chakrams that were on their way back. Immediately, she threw the explosive one down at the arrancar, at full speed. Once she was satisfied with its distance, Yuri pointed her finger towards the arrancar. It moved to dodge the chakram, but it was not ready to dodge her next attacks. “Hado 4: Byakurai!” She stated once more. The Line of lightning shot forward from her finger and pierced the arrancar’s body. Right when it thought that was all she intended, Yuri immediately ignited the Chakram again. Finally, Yuri came flying down at full speed. She caught the chakram, as she passed it, and when she got within range of the arrancar, she brought both chakram in front of her and prepared to slice through him with them. With the two chakram and at her speed, Yuri quickly punched at the arrancar repeatedly. Eventually the arrancar’s body found some resistance in the form of a tree branch. Yuri continued to accelerate and, in the moment the arrancar hit the branch, she forced her way through him.
At her speed, Yuri wasn’t able to immediately stop. Instead, she quickly changed her direction from directly downward to facing the rest of the forest. She flew through the forest at that insane speed, making sure to dodge as many branches as she could. She revolved around the area in which the dying arrancar’s body most likely not laid. By the time she was able to effectively land, the wings had sustained a little damage.
Yuri walked over to the arrancar, making sure to gather any information that would benefit the Gotei 13. “Why did you come here!?” She asked it with a stern tone. “Why? Because I wanted to kill a shinigami.” It said as it coughed. “If that’s the case, a follower of Aizen wouldn’t come alone.” She said as she walked towards it. “Just because I’m a follower, doesn’t mean he likes me! I was one of the first arrancar.. he called me a failure and had me leave his sight.. I wanted to prove to him that I was worthy!” It said as it laid there dying. “I’m sorry to say, had you beaten me, you might have gotten a little recognition. At least that’s what I would say, had it been anyone other than the captain.” Yuri said, continuing with her stern tone. “I’m going to sleep..” Yuri said as she began to walk away from the arrancar, yawning in the process. “Wait! You can’t just leave me here to die.. at least finish me off!.. the pain! The pain!” It began to cry dramatically. “I would..” Suddenly the arrancar’s corpse erupted in an explosion of blood. “.. but she came all the way here to do just that.” Yuri said, not batting an eye to see what had befallen her opponent. Yuri was aware of the onmi member that now stood next to the place the arrancar’s body sat. “Seireitei sensed an arrancar over here, I came to investigate along with some others. Did he say anything while you were fighting?” It was a woman in black asking the question, the only noticeable feature was her purple hair. “Nope.. I guess I’ll have to do a report when I return?” Yuri asked. The onmi member nodded before disappearing into the shadows. Yuri then went off to find a place to sleep.
