School had resumed once again; the weekend had been over. Tsukasa was feigning attention towards his classes. He normally studied a lot at home so he didn’t really need to pay attention during class. It’s not like grades were that important to him anyway. The only thing that was on his mind was his own capabilities as a fighter. It was true that he had been trained as a swordsman since he was young, which did give him some advantage in a fight. For example, his eyes were much more trained to spot the subtle movements of others. However, the way he fought currently, the techniques drilled into him as a child were essentially useless. The movements that needed to be made by a fighter were a lot different than those needed to be made by a swordsman. When wielding a sword, the arms were swung and the blade was treated as a part of the swordsman. A fighter, on the other hand, relied only on the fists, being able to avoid attacks with as little movement as possible and getting in to subdue the opponent.
When he was using ‘Bestial Takeover’, Tsukasa didn’t have a sword to rely on. Rather, he depended on his own reflexes and arm strength to tear away at the enemy. The best way to train himself was practice, and well, he wanted a little more experience before doing stupid things like challenging thugs and delinquents around Karakura Town. There were always that rowdy bunch that enjoyed fighting, but they were pretty good. If he didn’t at least get some kind of preview on what bare-handed combat was like, it would surely help him. It kind of tied in with Hollows, to some extent. He doubted he would be using any form of stance or style of fighting against them, but getting familiar with bare-handed and close-quarters combat would likely help him out in the future.
Well, for a start, he would probably visit the Boxing Team of his school. Perhaps just observe them for the first day, maybe learn the form. As the school day eventually came to an end, Tsukasa carried out his plan, heading over to the boxing club. Opening the door, Tsukasa stepped inside as he was met with the stares and glares of the several club members that were present. He paid no mind to it and observed the place, which seemed like it had the bare necessities. They really only had that ring and gloves, but not much else. Not that he would need anything else. ”Oh, Tsukasa-kun, right? May I help you?” one of the club members headed over and asked. Tsukasa simply looked at him for a second before saying, ”I just came to watch.” One of the other club members had suddenly stood up and seemed angry as he said, ”So you think you can come in whenever you want and do as you please? This is a team. If you have no interest in joining, then leave.”
Tsukasa had just been provoked, and while he had originally just come to watch and observe how they fought, he couldn’t just let this person’s arrogance go. ”If you can make me admit defeat, I’ll leave.” he simply said as the other quickly replied, ”Underestimating the boxing club? Fine, step into the ring.” The club member had already stepped into the ring, waiting for Tsukasa as he put on his boxing gloves. Following after him, Tsukasa stepped into it was well, paying no attention to the equipment. The member that had welcomed him before had advised him to put on some gear, but Tsukasa ignored his words. He decided that he would just experience it on his own. Being protected by some gear wasn’t his style. He was pretty confident in his reflexes anyways.
The fight started with the club member giving his first swing, a straight and simple left jab. Using his right arm to deflect his arm away, Tsukasa swung his right arm straight out and to his side. With his left arm, Tsukasa went for a left jab as well, but the club member had been able to avoid it by moving his head to the side. Tsukasa simply observed it, noting that his opponent seemed quite experienced. By this time, Tsukasa’s opponent had been able to get his left arm back in action, swinging it towards Tsukasa’s face. There was the option of just grabbing the arm, perhaps by the wrist, or just using his right arm to push up against his opponent’s left to lead it astray, but he was trying not to fight ‘against a human’. If he were fighting a Hollow, it would be as easy as that. Though they did have significantly larger bodies, it was his reflexes and his ability to evade attacks that he was trying to refine. Trying to maintain his position, Tsukasa simply lowered his levels, bending his knees to go low enough to avoid the fist.
Judging by his opponent’s body posture, Tsukasa could tell that his opponent had put a lot of momentum into that attack, probably intending to finish him off with one strong attack. Unluckily for the poor club member, Tsukasa was not as weak or inexperienced as he appeared. After ducking under, Tsukasa used his left arm and drove it into his opponent’s stomach. Coughing and wheezing, the poor victim of Tsukasa’s attack had stumbled backwards as he grabbed his stomach. He had probably never faced this level of pain yet. Tsukasa trained profusely at home, leading him to have strong muscles. Tsukasa wasn’t done yet. It was usually those who spoke the loudest who were actually not the strongest and he had no qualms about ending this silly fight now. Grabbing him by the shirt, Tsukasa lifted him up and slammed him onto the ring floor. With a glare, Tsukasa muttered to his opponent, ”I don’t know the rules, but you lost.”
As he stepped off of the defeated club member, Tsukasa turned back to see that another one had stepped in. ”Pretty good.” the stranger said as he continued to introduce himself, ”I’m the club leader. You can call me Shin.” With that said, Shin had immediately run up to Tsukasa, punching him hard in the face, sending Tsukasa to the floor. [color=8B1717”Well…that was fast…” Tsukasa noted as he stood back up. His face had gone a little numb from the sudden impact. It was pretty painful, the man in front of him was no joke. Surely, he deserved to be the leader of the club. Tsukasa was getting a little irritated, although it wasn’t towards the club member or anything. It was just that nothing was going the way he wanted it to. He just wanted to rest, but people just kept coming by and picking fights. Although, it’s not like he minded. He always accepted a fight. Grinning, Tsukasa waited for Shin to attack again.
Shin had soon jumped in, being rather aggressive in terms of style. Unlike what the other club member had done, Shin went straight for a strong swing rather than a jab, which was actually fast, making it pretty difficult to dodge. As it was aimed for his face, Tsukasa was able to duck under it again, but Shin had already been able to predict this. Using his left hand, Shin smashed his bare knuckles into Tsukasa’s forehead, causing Tsukasa to hit the floor once again. Standing up, Tsukasa saw that Shin was already in his ‘form’, the standard left hand in front with the right arm closer. Tsukasa decided to go on the offensive this time, simply trying to drive his right fist into Shin’s torso. Shin decided to turn his body, effectively avoiding the fist altogether. This was what surprised Tsukasa. Simple body movements that allowed Shin to stay close to Tsukasa while avoiding attacks as well. Tsukasa was always more of the “get hit and then hit back harder” type. Even though it was pretty much common sense, it seemed like he had been newly discovering the concept for the first time.
Tsukasa realized that while fighting against Hollows, he focused too much on using his techniques to dispose of Hollows. If he stuck to the traditional ‘tear them apart with enhanced strength’, it was possible for him to rely on his augmented strength as well. It would be a good way to save his other techniques for moments when the enemy is proven to be strong, requiring more than just his heightened power to win. Well, even though he realized it, he would still need continuous practice. Just this one fight wasn’t going to do too much. It wasn’t long enough. He had yet to actually learn anything and this fight was going to be brief. Deciding that he should end it fast, Tsukasa then swung his left arm into Shin’s sides. He was a southpaw, after all. Using his right arm to try and finish his opponent off would be foolish. As his left fist drove into the sides of his opponent, Tsukasa could see that Shin was basically done for. Using his right arm, Tsukasa grabbed Shin by the head and put all of his force into pushing it onto the floor. With success, Shin’s head had slammed into the mat, no doubt bringing great pain to Shin.
”More practice…” Tsukasa muttered to himself as he headed out of the room. This served as a good eye opener, but he would need to practice much more. Normal humans weren’t going to do. Even though he didn’t want to, he would have to train himself against Hollows. Finding the weaker ones and getting into the habit of efficient maneuvering would be his goal.
