((This one follows 'Back to Training.' I also will note, seeing as I assume it will be Empty reading it, that I'm probably going to get slapped because I did put more Bankai-hinting stuff here :P. In short, Senmidori isn't materializing, but rather she's um.. having growing pains.
Sai + Bright Signal.
“Bakudo Ichi: Sai!” Sayurin stated as she slashed her fingers towards a training dummy. She was now, once again, at the training area of Seireitei. Just like the last time she was here, she was learning Kido. Also, just like last time, she was practicing the Kido later in the day. She expected night to fall in just a couple hours, but figure the nature of the Kido she wished to learn was enough to attest that they wouldn’t take too long to learn.
Bakudo 1 was the first of the Kido she intended to learn. Of course, she nailed the simple spell on the first try. Reiatsu flow and position were far simpler for this spell then most of the spells she had learn, so she simply had to attempt it. To no surprise, this first attempt yielded a neat spiritual chain on the training dummy. She marked the spell as learned on her slip of paper, listing various Kido, and looked at the next one. The next Kido was called ‘Bright Signal,’ and basically it created a signal flare that can be shot up into the sky.
She had read the Kido she wanted to learn, during this session, before heading here to the training grounds. As such, she already knew that this Kido was rather simple. All she had to do was to focus energy into a sphere and send it flying. She did just that, pushing the flow of her energy into her palm, into a sphere shape. It flowed and flowed and within a quick moment, the sphere had been successfully made. “Akarusa Aizu!” She stated the spell’s name, and then threw it up; it went up about 20 feet and then fell back down to the ground and cracking open in the process.
For a moment, Yuri was blinded by the explosion of the sphere. In that time, she realized what she had done wrong – she had simply thrown it without doing anything to increase the height it would attain. She waited a moment before trying again; her eyes still were irritated by the flash from the first explosion. “I just thought of something. If I did use this spell, wouldn’t others come here thinking I was in trouble?” She based this on the fact that signal flares were generally used to call for help. “What do you think Senmidori?” she asked, seeking her zanpaktou’s opinion.
A minute passed before Yuri concluded that Senmidori wasn’t going to answer. ‘I hope she’s okay,’ she thought to herself.
Sayurin had decided on a different method to learning this spell. Rather than launching the spell up, she was going to conclude that she could successfully make the sphere by the earlier blinding explosion. Knowing that actually using the spell would probably summon other shinigami to her location, she decided she’d try launching a rock into the air with a quick explosion of Reiatsu. Holding a rock in her palm, she released her Reiatsu quickly and watched as it jumped in the air about a foot. She grabbed another and tried again, this time maybe a yard. 10, 20 30 feet, she kept trying until she was able to launch a rock as high as the Bright Signal Kido was supposed to go. That was enough for her to conclude she had learned the spell.
Illuminate.
“Senmidori! Why aren’t you talking?” Yuri asked of her zanpaktou spirit, worried. At first she had figured the young girl had fallen asleep, but now she wasn’t certain. “Senmidori! Get out here!” She yelled, unsure of how else she would call upon the spirit. “Okay, fine! Probably having one of your fits because I didn’t play with you today! I just thought you would have a laugh.” A frown appeared on the shinigami’s face. She looked at the spell, ‘Illuminate,’ which was supposed to turn the caster’s body into a spiritual lantern. She figured Senmidori would tease her about it, but when she heard nothing, she began to worry.
“Before I make any more stupid mistakes, I better go over the most important fact, with this spell; releasing a sudden burst of energy will probably kill me.” She pointed out, unsure of whether she should laugh. She was going to need to produce a layer of energy around her body and have it give off just the right amount of energy to illuminate a small area around her. Before doing that, she did a quick Reiatsu exercise.
The exercise had her focusing Reiatsu at various parts of her body. First she would focus it into her left hand, and then the right and then the left leg and then the right. Once she felt ready, she cast the spell. “Illuminate!” She commanded as she focused Reiatsu, and thus energy, throughout her body. She saw no light engulfing her body, so she increased the flow throughout her body. Following the instructions on the slip of paper, she made a lining of Reiatsu around her body that would hold the light-producing energies. Once the lining was prepared, she released the energy. Suddenly her body was producing a rather bright light. It covered an area of ten feet from her body. Her growing sensitivity to her own Reiatsu has also allowed her to notice the slow depletion of energy as the light shown.
Tsubasa no Mitsukai
With the third Kido learned, she prepared to leave the training grounds, but as she went to put the Kido list away, she noticed one of the listed Kido. Yuri read the description carefully and the more she read the more excitement she felt as she read the spell. “Wait until Senmidori sees that.. I can fly!” With that said, she returned to worrying about her zanpaktou whom still hasn’t said anything. The spell she found was called Tsubasa no Mitsukai, or Wings of Angel; the spell would allow her to create a pair of wings that would allow her to fly.
Rather than heading back, Yuri began to work on this Kido for she felt it would be something fun to show Senmidori when she woke up. She felt confident that, even if it did get too dark, she could use the Kido she just learned to give her some light. She read this Kido’s description so thoroughly that she may have never analyzed anything ever as clearly. Once she had memorized the description almost perfectly, she folded up the slip of paper and returned it to the pouch on her chest.
She began to charge Reiatsu into her back. More and more of the pressure was applied to the region and it came quicker and quicker. She quickly felt as if enough Reiatsu was there to try to spell, “Tsubasa no Mitsukai!” she said before sending out a burst of Reiatsu, while visualizing a beautiful pair of light green angel wings. The color and design were chosen to symbolize the love she had for her zanpaktou Senmidori Tenshi (Angel of Light Green). The Reiatsu was forced out, as was expected, but after some distance it came flying back towards her.
She quickly focused the Reiatsu back towards her back region; she wasn’t going to accept failure in learning this Kido. She once again prepared to release the Reiatsu, “Tsubasa no Mitsukai!” She visualized the beautiful wings once again, putting some more emphasis on also focusing on the Reiatsu flow. She felt the Reiatsu move out from her back; she visualized the Reiatsu molding into a pair of wings. While doing this, she continued to force Reiatsu back. Rather than putting just enough out, she was going to push out more than enough because at least then she can just shrink it down.
She was a step closer this time, the Reiatsu began to form into what looked like wings, but they were the wrong color, lacked the details of fine feathers and were too small. She kept redoing the spell and as it grew dark, she overlooked her original intent of using ‘Illuminate’ to give her light. She was too focused on learning this Kido that nothing else mattered, not even her fears. There was even a point in which she technically had the wings done right, but it wasn’t enough. The feathers on the wings were not details enough and they were white. She wanted this to be surprise for Senmidori, something that would put her in awe and so perfection was necessary.
She kept redoing the spell, over and over again, each time getting the details more and more exact. In time she got the coloring to the right shade of green, but she continued on to get it to look as if there were actual feathers on the Reiatsu-created wings. She just didn’t focus on the feathers though; she tried to get as many wings to appear in one cast without having to alter them afterwards. She had finished with her previous Kido around 8pm, but by the time she was satisfied with the wings, it was around 1am and she had grown tired for pushing herself as such. She returned back to the barracks, intending to return the next night.
The Next Night
“Senmidori, watch!.. Senmidori?” Yuri waited a moment for her zanpaktou spirit to say something. “Um.. what is it Yuri?” Came a reply, but it sounded different than what Sayurin was familiar with. The voice didn’t sound so childish, well, if Senmidori sounded like an eight year old earlier, she now sounded like a girl entering puberty. “Is something wrong Senmidori?” Yuri asked, worried about the change in voice. “I’m fine, um.. what was it you needed?” Senmidori answered. Yuri knew the spirit was lying, but she couldn’t think of what could be wrong, ‘Zanpaktou don’t get sick, do they?’ She asked herself. “Just watch this, you’re going to love it!” Yuri stated before quickly creating the wings that she practiced making, so long the previous night.
Within a few seconds, Yuri was now standing there at the training grounds with large, beautiful wings on her back. The wings resembled those of an angel perfectly down to every detail. The light green hued wings extended twice her arms’ length in both directions. Yuri focused on the Reiatsu in which the wings were composed of and forced them to move up and down. “Wow! That’s.. amazing!” Senmidori stated in response to the site she saw. “Can you fly with them?” She asked with a hesitant tone in her voice.
Sayurin was still getting used to the new voice of Senmidori, unsure of the reason behind the change. Still she proceeded to respond to the girl, “We’re about to see.” She laughed after saying this because she knew she had not practiced flying with the wings yet. She began to flap the wings the best she could. When she didn’t rise in the air, she rethought her approach at getting them to flap and tried it differently. In a couple minutes, she found a method in which made her feel a pushing sensation, off the ground. She flapped harder and harder and soon she was a foot off the ground.
“See!” Yuri smiled as she said that, enjoying the feeling of truly flying. Having learned to walk on air not long ago, she had been able to travel in the air, but the feeling of actually flying placed a thrill in her. At first she tried stating at her current height with as few flaps of her wings as possible. Once she approached the minimum she thought she could reach, she began to fly higher into the air.
Once she was comfortable with her height, and her ability to increase her height, she began to try flying about the air. At first she flew the way she had seen countless birds fly, flapping her wings multiple times in one direction. The longer she remained airborne, the more her confidence grew and she began to fly like high-speed birds, bringing the wings down with great force to allow soaring a large distance before each flap of her wings. She practiced many different maneuvers in the air, allowing her to move almost as effectively as if she had been running about, if not more effectively. The final test was to returned to ground, but what she truly wanted to do was to descend at a high speed like she had seen many large birds do.
She went for the descent by flying in a wide circle. Around and around the rim of the imaginary circle she was creating, each time she dropped in altitude a bit. After a few more, quick laps, she had come rather close to the ground and prepared to land. She descended a bit more until her feet touched down, and continued to run until the force of her descent decremented. It would have gone well, but she had to run further than she expected and the one wing hit into a nearby tree.
Once Yuri had stopped completely, she turned to grab the wing and see the damage. After all her practice the previous night, she had become rather sensitive to the flow of Reiatsu throughout the wings and thus knew that there was indeed damage there. When she looked, she saw a broken part of the wing. “And it was going so well too.” Yuri said with a slight frown as she examined the ‘wound.’ “Couldn’t you fix it?” Senmidori suggested. Sayurin looked up to nowhere specific upon hearing those words. She gave it a try and began to focus a little more Reiatsu up into the wings. Once the Reiatsu was there, she began to focus it up into the damaged spot. The area began to fix itself until it looked just like it did before Yuri was flying about.
“Thank you so much Senmidori! If I could hug you, I would!” She said with a large grin growing on her face. However, while she was grinning, Senmidori was frowning at the statement. “I’m going to bed..” The spirit said. “Oh, I guess I’ll head back to the barracks too.” She was half tempted to fly back to the barracks using the technique, but instead dispersed the wings and walked back. At least that was the idea until she realized how dark it was – she ended up having to use ‘Illuminate.’
